Originally from Wildomar, California, Kelly grew up surrounded my different kinds of music from her parents, and at a very young age she made an appearance on America’s Most Talented Kids, singing “Keep on Singin’ My Song” originally by Christina Aguilera, and won the contest, beating Hunter Hayes.
It was when Kelly was 14 that she began uploading covers, but she made her breakthrough with a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You”, alongside Angie Girl, which has amassed 21 million views to date. All of Tori Kelly’s videos combined have surpassed 83 millions views, with over a million subscribers. She auditioned for season 9 of American Idol in Denver Colorado, and only made it through to Hollywood week, but unfortunately didn’t make it through to the Top 24. Following the show, she began to write more songs which led to her being asked to feature in charity recording of “We Are the World” entitled “We Are the World: The Next Generation”.
It was on May 1st 2012, that she released her first album, “Handmade Songs by Tori Kelly”, complete with six original songs. Kelly referred to it as a warm up album to a full-length album that would come out in the future. In February 2013, she released a song called “Fill a Heart” which she wrote for the “Child Hunger Ends Here” campaign. The song was soon after performed by The Wanted on Dancing With the Stars. Later that year, Tori Kelly embarked on a tour across the US for her “Fill a Heart” tour, performing in prestigious venues such as the Roxy in Los Angeles and the Gramercy theatre in New York. She even travelled across the pond to play at the Bush Hall in London. Throughout her career so far she has featured in Teen Vogue, Elle and Glamour.
Her second EP, “Foreword” was released on October 22nd 2013, on Capitol Records, and was the supporting act for Ed Sheeran at Madison Square Garden on November 1st 2013. She also supported Sam Smith on his In the Lonely Hour tour.
YouTube has fast become a platform for up and coming talents to propel themselves into superstardom. And Tori Kelly is shining as one of its brightest. Accumulating millions of views on videos of both covers and original music, she has attracted the attention of some of the industry’s biggest players, including new manager Scooter Braun and is working on her debut album with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Pharell Williams.
As a huge fan myself, who has been watching Tori’s videos online for years, when she announced her first headline show in London, there was no way I could miss it. Tori Kelly embodies the art of singing and songwriting. Walking on stage to a rapturous applause at London’s Bush Hall in January 2013, she showcased her gift perfectly, standing solo on the stage with her prized acoustic guitar. The crowd was made up of the majority of the UK music industry, all eager to witness the riffs and runs that have given Tori the reputation as one of the most skilled singers on the scene at the moment.
During her cover of Michael Jackson’s PYT, the crowd gasped as she proved she is just as good, if not better, live than she is in her videos (Skip to 2:24 on the PYT YouTube vid to see what I mean).At times appearing overwhelmed by the support that the crowd showed, Tori Kelly has only improved both vocally and in confidence the other times that I have been fortunate enough to see her, at Dingwalls and o2 Academy Islington.
She truly is one of the industry’s brightest young stars and her talent really does need to be witnessed live in order for it to be understood. I will never miss a Tori Kelly show in London, it’s just not worth it.

I saw him in the Outcry Tour, along with other people in Bethel, as well as with Elevation, Vertical, and Mosaic. It was such an incredible night, the Lord was truly present! I'd highly recommend this to anyone, from someone walking with the Lord for decades, to a new Christian, to someone who isn't a follower. This is an anointed group, and I pray God blesses you all for all the work you're doing for His Kingdom (:
