For fans of Celtic Punk music, one of the standards that all other bands will be measured up to is The Pogues. With a long standing history in the field, fans look forward to hearing the distinct tin whistle and banjo combinations that have been part of their tradition since 1982. All it will take is one look at their first album in 1984 “Red Roses for Me” to hear the impact they made on the Celtic music culture. The Pouges are the standard of Celtic Punk band music.
One of the unique things that makes The Pogues a fan favorite is the laid back vibe that comes with attending one of their concerts. Part of this comes from their name, the original name of the band was Pogue Mahoneof the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse“
Though due to the death of guitarist Phillip Chevron, the band has not been touring or releasing new music. The last album they released was in October of 2013 which was a box collection of all of their studio albums and a previously unreleased live album from 1991 featuring former guitarist Joe Strummer.
