Pretty much everybody’s heard Eagle-Eye Cherry’s classic single ‘Save Tonight’ at some point in their lives, but few likely know the following two facts; one, the musician behind the song is Swedish, hailing from Stockholm, and two, his name is actually Eagle-Eye Cherry; that’s apparently what went on his birth certificate. He’s actually the half-brother of singer Neneh Cherry, too, so he comes from good stock; it’s just that his lazy, laid-back vocal on ‘Save Tonight’ has him sounding every inch the American. One hit wonder might be too strong a term for Cherry, because he has enjoyed success elsewhere; his debut album, Desireless, went platinum, and its follow-up, 2000’s Living in the Present Future, charted strongly worldwide, too. After a nine-year hiatus from his musical career, Cherry returned in 2012 with his fourth full-length album, Can’t Get Enough, and saw it meet with strong reviews from critics; that’s despite the fact, too, that he didn’t tour the album, with his last U.K. dates a long way back now. He’s a genuinely intriguing musician; a real troubadour, who has and will continue to do things entirely on his own terms - who knows if we’ll see him tour properly again?
