Freda Payne is an extremely talented and motivational performer with some incredible hits, such as Band of Gold. As well as being an extremely talented soun and R&B singer, her career in film and musicals, and her work as a TV host helped her in achieving the musical success that she became best known for. For all of her achievements, she was made Dame of Malta in the mid 70s, and continued to produce incredible music ever since.
I was lucky enough to see her perform in a variety charity show, where she performed her duet Saving a Live with Sir Cliff Richard, which was something that I never thought I’d get the chance to witness. The track sounds great recorded, but watching them perform live and seeing the electric chemistry and their body language in performance made it all the more special.
During her set, Payne shouted out to the audience ‘if you wanna join in, join in and sing it with me’, which was really exciting, because she would hold out her microphone when we were singing, and let the audience fill in parts of the chorus. Although she’s been performing for many years, she was as good as ever, giving a wonderful vocal performance, especially of the incredibly challenging Bring The Boys Home.
