Biografía
With the initial material preceding the band’s formation, after holding auditions at Howard’s abode, McCracken was invited along and he was so impressed with the quality of songs they had already worked on that he agreed to join. Shortly after this, they decided upon the band name Used, a reflection of the hardships that they had faced as individuals and the feeling they had been left with. With everything in place, the band went ahead and recorded “Demos from the Basement” and sent it to Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann. So enthused by what he had heard, Feldmann made it his mission to find them a label. In 2001 the band signed with Reprise Records.
Finding out there was another band in existence with the same name, the band added prefix ‘the’ and would become known as The Used. In 2002 they released their debut self-titled album produced by John Feldmann. Certifying gold, the album featured the singles “A Box Full of Sharp Objects”, “The Taste of Ink” and “Buried Myself Alive”. Off the back of that album, the band were invited to play at Ozzfest, Projekt Revolution and Warped Tour.
In 2004, tragedy struck as McCracken’s then girlfriend died of an overdose while pregnant with his child. His angst fed into their second album released later that year, “In Love and Death” as an open dedication to her reflected in the track “Hard to Say”. The album also produced the singles “I Caught Fire” and “All That I’ve Got”.
Two years later Steineckert announced his departure from the band as he went on to join punk band Rancid and was replaced by Dan Whitesides. Spending the majority of 2007 touring on Taste of Chaos and Give it a Name festival before releasing their third album “Lies for the Liars”. The album featured the popular tracks “The Bird and the Worm”, “Pretty Handsome Awkward” and “Liar Liar (Burn In Hell)” and peaked at number five in the US Billboard charts.
In 2011 McCracken and the band set up their own record label called Anger Music Group in conjunction with Hopeless Records, giving the band an opportunity for more room for creative control. It was through this label the band released their fifth album “Vulnerable” in 2012.
Though The Used may shy away from the term ‘emo’ band, none-the-less the band capture extravagant and expressive music producing catchy anthems which forever induce fond memories.

I am a Heavy Metal / Speed Metal / Adrenaline band / crowd seeker.
Walked into these concerts unknowing of The Used's sound or Energy - left with nothing but respect and admiration for this lead singer, this band and their dedicated - devoted - Diehard fans ; a new Fan For Sure!! Went to see both nights of The Used @ Starland Ballroom = April 29th and April 30th , 2016. They were to play 15th Anniversary of their very 1st (self titled) album on the first night and their 2nd album (In Love And Death) on the 2nd night.
First of all both nights were Sold Out ( I am a season Ticket Holder).. the crowd were a mix of both men and women who were 90 - 95% die hard fans.. Girls were practically in tears just over the fact they were seeing this group live...the majority of the crowd knew word for word - screaming , dancing , holding hands, high five'n, fist pumping, crowd surfing and circle mosh'n in proud word for word face to face joy sharing of lyrics , hugs , admiration, love and shared pleasure to be singing the words with their admired beloved band...the fan in front of me lost most of her voice halfway into the concert and proudly shared with all around her the fact she was screaming the lyrics with so much energy that she had lost her voice. Okay - that's just the crowd/ Fan reaction ... You definitely do not need to know this band to see all they stand for - who they are and why they have such a devoted all knowing and all Loving Fan base !! To say this group gives 1000% (not a typo = One Thousand Percent) is an understatement. The words and the feelings and the emotions and the sincerity of this lead singer and every member in the band just poured out throughout this entire concert - you could not possibly leave without respect and admiration for who they are and what they stand for and how much they truly love their fans and living life itself. They are true and honest and hit you where it counts - in reality - to the heart and not to mention the beyond sexy voice and personality of this Lead Singer - Good Lord !!! So True - So Touching - So Emotional - Rock'n Hard - Singing Together - Joing Together to Share Life's Up's and Downs together - helping one another Smile and Stumble Through Life Together - We Are Here - Knowing What You Are Going Through Together - life can sometimes be rough, but sharing our knowledge of this together through song and love and togetherness will help us all Smile And Stumble Through...Together!!!

There's a reason I've seen The Used almost a dozen times. Simply put: The experience. My first trip to see them was a fifteen hour drive and it was worth it to say the very least. From Bert's hilarious dancing to Dan's tricks behind his drum set, The Used is sure to deliver a night that is both beyond your imagination and unforgettable. Each and every time is better than the last.
Not knowing what to expect my first time around, I waited in a line for 12 hours and entered the venue to be approached by some of the nicest, die hard fans I've ever met in my life. The Used has yet to disappoint a crowd and it shows when you see the dedication their fans have always shown. You'll inevitably leave the venue with a handful of lasting friendships, as I have each time.
I have yet to leave any of The Used shows without tears streaming down my face and no voice for days. Weather you're a long time fan of The Used or you're recently discovering them, it's an experience anyone can enjoy. Old tunes, new tunes and the wall of death is a night sure to please anyone.
These four incredibly talented individuals can turn an intimate, acoustic evening to a raging circle pit in a matter of seconds. Their ability to capture a crowd is one you'll never find at another show.
The Used has a song and a show for everyone. From heartbreaks to overcoming addictions, moving forward and even revolutions, you'll hear a beat and a song that will speak to you and stay with you forever.
The Used is an American post-hardcore band from Orem, Utah, formed in 2001 and have been touring and recording since the incarnation. They now have a loyal fan base around the globe and when their latest tour stopped off in Birmingham it was no exception to the levels of anticipation to see this cult favourite.
Playing an incredibly short set of just eight songs, the band still made sure the crowd had a fantastic evening as they tore through the first three tracks with very little pause or interaction. Lead singer Bert McCracken whipped his fans into frenzy though with the most subtle confident look or rise of a hand during early single 'Take It Away'. The inter-band dynamics are also a great way to get the audience hyped up as the members perform extended jams to the likes of 'Revolution' and clearly enjoy playing together as a unit.
Despite only being onstage for eight songs, the band have developed earlier works with complex introductions and jaw dropping instrumentals that keeps the crowd cheering along and makes the gig feel like a stretched out experience. Nobody leaves disappointed as the final notes of first single 'A Box Full Of Sharp Objects' ends.
Bert Mccraken did not even speak for the first three songs but conducted the audience with a flick of his hand. I think the front man of any band is crucial to their live performance and Bert is up there with the best. Once he talked to us there was nothing the audience would not do. The Used were amazing. Over 10 years together and still producing new amazing music that speaks to you. The current album is worth any investment and the songs capture your undivided attention. I cannot wait to see them again and hope to hear more of the new album live. This was my first time seeing The Used and I wonder what took me so long to catch up.
I saw them on my 20th bday and sang along to every song they played. Best birthday ive ever had. Got to see my all time favoeite band and i felt like a child again. :) Bert is a very inspiring speaker and has a way with words. He is a great influence to our generation in my opinion. Thank u for spreading your words of wisdom. You have help me through ALOT of ruff patches in my life just with your music. I love THE USED!!!
Great show! The Used did a fantastic job and I had a blast. The venue was packed, security did their job well and everyone had a great time! The Used played all of the classics and some of their new material, which was great too! Their showmanship was hands down excellent, very engaging and loving of their fans!
The Used are a pretty great live act. Super stage presence and great inter-band-member vibes. Really got the crowd going and took the time to talk and generate some buzz.
Awesome touch with the 'serenade' from the balcony at Koko, too.
