Biografía
Childhood friends Jeff Raines and Robery Mercurio became interested in the local funk scene when they attended college at Tulane and Loyola Univeristies first formed the group in 1994; they were later joined by Chris Lane, Rob Gowen, Richard Vogel, Theryl DeClouet, Ben Ellman, and Corey Glover. Over the years, the group has developed their own distinct sound, pulling from their influences, which include hip-hop, electronic, jazz, rock, world and blues music.
On top of making appearances with their live performances, they released their first album in 1996 entitled “Coolin’ Off,” with the help of Fog City Records. Galactic continued to consistently release an album with only a year or two in between each record. On their 2007 album, “From The Corner To The Block” the European release has one more track that features German rapper Dendermann, which is not included on the US version. The band is also known for their live performances, specifically because they tend to invite special guests to play with them; including, The Neveille Brothers, and the Soul Rebels Brass band, both of which are fellow New Orleans based bands. In 2012 the band toured the United States and Canada with Corey Glover and the Soul Rebels Brass band.
Críticas en vivo
Cited as the home of Blues, New Orleans has gone on to inspire a huge amount of its residents and one of these is jazz fusion six piece Galactic. The jam band has been operating for over two decades and it is so good to see every single one of their practice sessions, jam sessions and live appearances present in the performance this evening. Galactic are a band forever learning and developing their techniques and musicianship, they are not an outfit prepared to rest on their laurels despite having entertained thousands on countless live dates for the past twenty years.
The sound has evolved noticeably to include the genres of funk, R & B and even at times rap yet this modern styling goes over well with the audiences. The classics are still included to please the droves of older fans yet the whole show has a brilliant consistency so therefore anyone not in the know would simply presume they were playing one album in its entirety. There is a charm and authenticity to the music Galactic performs so for any fans of jazz and the New Orleans scene in general, go see them.
This was my second time seeing Galactic and man am I glad I went. I was pretty beat from the week and almost stayed in, but the show was more energizing than any cup of coffee or cold shower. The usual singer was sick, so Erica Falls filled in and she tore the roof off the place. What a set of pipes. The audience was really into it and everyone was dancing and grooving. There weren't a whole bunch of guest musicians as is sometimes the case at Galactic shows, but they didn't need them. Fantastic musicianship and great pacing with the set. Go see them.
A great band, and I am finally got the chance to see them live. I've been a big fan for a lot of years and have missed the opportunity when they have been in Portland before. Sorry I did not get the singer's name correct, but she was great! Nice tight horn section and lots of energy. Tough to be the opening act, but Galactic had it going on last night.
IT WAS GREAT !!! PLACE WAS PACKED W/PEOPLE DANCING AND HAVING A GOOD TIME , EVERYONE WAS KOOL , NEED MORE OF THESE EVENTS W/O THE HASSLES TOO MANY SEEM TO HAVE , FOR NO REASON . OPENING ACT TOO ....
Been seeing Galactic live for the past 16 years. They sure have made transitions throughout the years, but never disappoint! The venues have grown larger but always a great time!!
Amazing! Great live show! So much energy and a lot of fun. Erica Falls on vocals was brilliant. Will go again if they come back to town for sure. Great bang for the buck!
Great. They are great. Like usual. I loved Erica and Cyril with them. They bring New Orleans on the road with them. I see them as much as I can!! Fonda solid!!
