Most people came to know Tony Lucca during his time on NBC’s 2012 season of The Voice, but Tony had been on the music grind for decades before finishing third on the high profile show. In fact, Tony’s showbiz debut occurred when he was just 14 as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club where the likes of Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake first cut their musical teeth. Despite these high profile moments, a Tony Lucca performance is humble, understated even. This is in no way a criticism. Tony’s onstage demeanour is endearing and it’s impossible not to be in awe of his talent. His voice is rich, nuanced and perfect all by itself. A guitar and mic are more than enough embellishments for this man. Tony’s concerts are usually small, intimate affairs, and I’m glad that this hasn’t changed since all of his TV coverage. Seeing him perform songs such as ‘Raise Your Hands’ and ‘Save My Soul’ feels truly special, and all of that is down to his genuine, raw talent. While Tony’s career might not have reached the heights and exposure he would like – and that he deserves – it has lasted so long because of his genuine talent and hard work. Given this, I’m sure his career will last for many more years to come.
Tony Lucca as always put on an excellent show. Armed with new songs from his forthcoming record release and a two piece backing band, he rocked it. Tony’s powerful voice combined with the awesome sound system at Jammin’ Java made for a memorable evening.
