Biografía
Born in the Belgian town of Leuven but raised in the nearby Leefdaal, Selah Sue learned to play the acoustic guitar aged 15 and began to compose her own songs around the same time. It took virtually no time at all for the talented singer to be raising eyebrows; at just 17 Universal offered her a singing contract although the songwriter turned it down as she wanted to sing her own songs.
After being the youngest and only female act at an Open-Mic night in Lueven, organiser Milow offered her a slot on his supporting programme, which led to warm up performances in London and Paris and major festival appearances.
In January 2009 Selah Sue released her debut EP “Black Part Love” and was supported by a Belgian musical theatre programme Ancienne Belgique, designed for promising acts without labels or management. The singer has regularly appeared on the dutch TV show “De Wereld Draait Door” and a number Flemish shows. In 2010 she hit the major festival circuit in Belgium playing Les Nuits Botaniques, Les Ardentes and Dour Festival among others. Selah Sue released her second EP “Raggamuffin” in October 2010, followed by a support appearance for Prince on his Sportpaleis tour.
The singer songwriter released her eponymously-titled debut album on March 4, 2011. The album peaked at No. 1 on the Belgium Albums Chart and featured the hit singles “This World”, “Crazy Vibes” and the Cee Lo Green collaboration “Please”.

My first Selah concert of the summer. It was really hot outside and the crowd had to wait for Selah to start her own concert with 3 other shows: Fakear, a friendly french young electro-guy, who gave his mixes while Selah was watching at him attentively backstage. Naâman came after with some white fresh reggae, then The Dô enjoyed themselves and a young crowd at the first rows also.
Selah came after 9pm with a one-hour set, which is some kind of reduced compared to usual setlists. It's the first time I attended a Selah concert with both of her chorists on stage. That gives something more soul to the event.
I was not so close to the center of the stage as usually -although being in the first row-, which did not me allow to enjoy the show 100%.
I had chance to meet friendly people around but some other youngest were some kind of unrespectful -this is festivals-.
Coming back to Selah show, it was a big show like a festival can allow. Selah gave her best and people agreed to every move she did. She did her "Fear nothing" song (issued from Reason album) "for the first time on stage" and mixed her both albums to let young and older people spend a splendid sunny night at La Rochelle...
Selah Sue, the surprising new face on the music scene is doing really interesting things with the genres of soul, R & B and reggae whilst incorporating the acoustic guitar. Her career originally began in her home country of Belgium yet after the success of her debut eponymous album she has been touring globally to a huge fan base.
Supported by a talented live band, Sue is ready to prove why she is considered to be one to watch with the easy listening vibes of 'Always Home' echoing out around the venue. The audience cheers loudly and as the excitement dies down Selah says her first hellos and thank yous to the sizeable crowd gathered for her show. The vocal range she has is really impressive, as the soulful tones she demonstrates during a cover of 'Black Part Love' by Lauryn Hill do not appear to correspond with her meek appearance.
She also has a lot of musical ability with her guitar, as she uses the acoustic almost exclusively to create the bass line and rhythm of 'Alone' which she performs entirely acapella. It is clear to see Selah Sue has the talent, the following and the potential to take her career a long way.
The young, beautiful and soulful songstress that is Selah Sue held the crowd’s rapturous attention from start to finish when I saw her perform back in 2012. The melting pot of jazz, funk, soul and reggae influences that appear in her songs make her a treat to see perform live, have won her much critical acclaim and have led to collaborations with the likes of Cee Lo Green. A talented vocalist and guitarist, Selah Sue’s dynamic stage presence and well versed live support band put on a great show. Her ability to switch between high octane vocal rap riffing and soulful crooning ensured that there was a great range of high energy and more chilled out songs featuring in the set. Most of the songs she performed were taken from the self titled 2011 album - the album that really brought her into the popular spotlight! I particularly enjoyed her acoustic version of ‘Raggamuffin’ and the bouncy groove of ‘Crazy Vibes’, but the Lauryn Hill cover was also an unexpected treat! I would recommend this show to just about anyone and everyone because the atmosphere at the gig was so welcoming and enjoyable!
Selah Sue plays venues the size of Verizon field in Europe. Seeing her in a basement club in D.C., being 10 feet away from her and the band was a warm and intimate pleasure. Not only is she adorable, she's immensely talented, If you've never seen her, make it a point to catch her next time. It's a rare treat to catch a world class artist in such a small venue. Highly recommended.
It was amazing!!! Her performance was incredible. The place was really nice and the sound was awesome! I hope she will come back for an other concert soon! I will not miss it, I'm definitely going to one of her concerts again! I totally loved it...
An amazing concert...
A great trio as first part, then Selah Sue and her band just fired up the room.
One the best concert I've seen, she nailed it :)
As expected, she showed how deep and full of positive vibes she is, go there and enjoy !
Such a soulful and sweet, sweet concert! We had an amazing time! Beautiful people, beautiful and emotional athmosfer. Everyone was having fun, dancing and singing, really one of the most beautiful concerts I have been to lately :-)
What a disappointment that she didn't sing Crazy Vibes.
Her voice really is amazing though, even better in reality.
The sound in Islington Assembly Hall was also the best I had in a concert I think.
Good concert overall
Selah Sue is one of the most dynamic performers I have ever seen live and I have seen many over the last three years. She is a must see! And I if she ever comes out with a live CD I will be buy it for sure. Fantastic show.
