Since 2009, I've seen a number of shows, both Brian solo and with TGA. On this tour, I saw the 1/14 acoustic show in Red Bank, the 4/28 show at the 9:30 Club in DC, and the 4/29 show at the Starland Ballroom in NJ. I witnessed this man's talent - musically, lyrically, and technically, really grow and develop over the past decade. It has been a fun ride, so far. On this tour he’s putting together a great blend of the new stuff with older stuff and pulling out some really cool surprise covers, like Spirit in the Night, Sultans of Swing, Downbound Train, Bell Bottom Blues, Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right…can you believe this? My only regret is that he still appears to be a ‘reluctant rock star’. At times, he almost seems embarrassed to be onstage and he does not command the venue. Too often he engages the one or two audience loud mouths, unwittingly encouraging them to keep being stupid. Then he gets sidetracked from stories that might otherwise explain a song’s mood or subject, bring a laugh, or just generally add to the evening, and the show bogs down. It happened at all three of these shows. Frank Turner once described how a rock singer HAS to be part entertainer – it goes with the territory. I’m looking forward to the day Brian develops this part of the persona, because then his shows will go from being really good to being transcendental. In the meantime, I’ve got my TGA tix for 5/27 back at the 9:30 and I’m looking forward to it.
Fantastic show! Great energy with the crowd, who already knew the words to the songs despite the album coming out YESTERDAY! Brian seemed glad to be "home" albeit for a moment. Love the new tunes (wish they played "Open All Night" plus a nod to Molly & the Zombies with "Smoke", Gaslight with "Mary Ann", and the Horrible Crowes with "Ladykiller"
Opener Jared Hart (The Scandals) ended up playing the whole set with The Crowes, not sure that's been happening every night or not, but I liked it!
As with other shows on the tour they covered Springsteen's "Atlantic City" and of course the Jersey crowd sung along.
Starland is a nice venue; it was pretty packed but the crowd was respectful and I saw no problems. Sound was also good.
this is my second time seeing him perform and he is amazingly talented as well as engaging and funny. the music was, of course wonderful (thought I'm not a huge fan of the Horrible Crowes stuff) and he handled the Kind-of annoying crowd well. I'm assuming last night was a night where he definitely preferred pizza to people. I hope he comes back...with the Gaslight Anthem would be amazing. overall, in spring musician. thanks for paying in stl.
Brian is en excellent live performer.
His music is honestly and full of emotion.
My favourite song was sugar from the elsie album.
The audience knew is new songs and the old songs.
the music was absolutely great.
But the location (Löwensaal in Nuremberg).
Horrible accoustic, dirty- no place for a good concert, sorry guys.
Please Brian- there are a lot of better locations in this area- forget this ruin.
Brian was on great form - relaxed, joking with the crowd, with powerhouse performances of his latest album.
Having been a huge fan of Brian's since the Sink or Swim days, it's great to see he hasn't changed a bit and I enjoyed every part of the gig.
The highlight was watching him play the piano, really soulful renditions of the music he was playing and a great way to take it all back to basics.
Wasn't sure what to expect of a solo acoustic performance having seen him three times fronting a band (including the Gaslight Anthem), but he exceeded expectations. He's always had a great rapport with the audience, but this proved to be a cross between stand-up comedy act and a toned down musical repertoire which everyone appreciated. A great gig, which I left with a huge smile on my face.
Best night ever! The gig was amazing, the crowd were brilliant, the venue is great! And to top it off we met Brian Fallon afterwards, where he said hello, shook my hand, signed my ticket and we had a photo, what a lovely amazing man, I'm head over heels! Been my dream to meet him and it happened at Koko in Camden! Fantastic memories! Grin grin grin!! :-D
Brian's concert at The Observatory was a fantastic way to spend Wednesday night. We had 8 people there from our group of friends, and everyone thought it was one of most personal and enjoyable concert any of had been to in a long time. And we all loved Brian's anecdotes and stories. Keep 'em coming. Thanks Brian.
Last night's show was fantastic. The music was fabulous and Brian's stage presence was great. Very entertaining show. I will definitely go to the next show that comes to our area. The guitar work was really good especially when they broke out the 12 strings. All around great show.
