Formed by Carlos Santana’s brother Jorge, Malo’s Latin American tinged Rock ‘N’ Roll is perfect in a live setting. With a fluctuating line up of anything over 10 members, with at least 3 percussionists and a full horn section, they have all the ingredients for a perfect party atmosphere – and they definitely don’t disappoint. The vocalists have a choreographed – but not too choreographed – set of dance moves, which help to inject more fun into the party atmosphere, and make you forget that this band has been together for over 5 decades, with the original members moving just as much as the new guys, bringing their wealth of experience on how to work a crowd effectively into play. In terms of the stage show, they have a rather simple, yet effective light show, which allows the audience to focus on the danceable magic being created by the band. A highlight is the 1972 hit “Suavecito”, with the band just as pleased as the audience to start playing it. The set is mostly drawn from their first 4 albums, with dancey workouts like “Dance To My Mambo” testing the band to their fullest, and showing off just how tight they are. A definite one to check out next time they tour near you.
