Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert and his music could well be described as a 'one hit wonder,' having achieved a no. 11 Billboard Chart positioning 1980 for his song "Romeo's Tune." After this success, Forbert has not exactly achieved the same heights but nonetheless, he is still going strong over thirty years later and performing regularly. His performance at McCoole's in Pennsylvania proved he is a well-seasoned musician with a vast and varied set, offering the large crowd a delightful performance. With a raspy voice and a harmonica strapped upon his neck, Forbert offers folk and blues that can certainly be met with comparisons to Bob Dylan. He played songs from throughout his career, such as "Blackbird Tune," "Stolen Identity" as well as a cover of Muddy Water's "Trouble No More." And of course his hit, "Romeo's Tune," which was met with a rapturous reception, being the overall highlight of the night. "Say Goodbye to Little Jo" was also a particularly poignant song, still holding its sense of bitterness that has clearly continued to this day. It was a fun and entertaining set that was finely tuned, displaying his vast experience as a performer. `Forbert has done well to have enjoyed a long career, even if it hasn't achieved wide success. Yet his music is still full of good songs that perhaps deserve more appreciation.

I try never to miss Steve Forbert when he is in the area. Fabulous show with old songs and new from his great new CD The Magic Tree. My only complaint is with the venue Union Stage. Steve wanted to play another tune or two but they shut him down due to another later show following. Bush league move. Don't schedule an unrelated later show or at least push it back.

Steve's show was fantastic. He had the energy of a 20 something on stage. He played much of what his audience requested and a few sing-a-longs that made the night memorable. His guitar playing was once again masterful. He's a true pro at his craft. Loved the show and highly recommend seeing him if you have the opportunity.

Excellent performance. Steve is a great entertainer and songwriter and worked many old and new songs in...great night. Highly recommended if you are a long time fan or just becoming familiar.
