I discovered Prince Rama on Spotify early this year and was delighted to see they'd been booked for the venerable Marble Bar on the fringe of downtown Detroit. Taraka stopped during the sound check to shake my hand and accept my effusive praise. She proved to be a force of nature: frenzied dancing, totally uninhibited, dramatic with the sword. Nimai is more than a drummer; she is a true percussionist with the same infectious enthusiasm of her sister. Michael Collins provided solid grounding with keyboards and what appeared to be a Jackson King V. The PBR-swilling crowd was only sort of into it until Taraka invited people to sit on stage for the last couple of songs. This bystander felt the band's joy and for my money they showed more energy and passion than Iggy and Josh Homme had four nights earlier downtown at the Fox Theatre. Viva Prince Rama. -- Jim Irwin, Lincoln Park MI 4-12-16
It's a little late for this review, but I felt more passion, joy and engagement with an audience of 100 from Prince Rama at Detroit's Marble Bar on April 11 than I did from Iggy Pop and Josh Homme four nights earlier in front of 5,000 people at the Fox Theatre downtown.I cannot wait until they play here again. Bring a friend. If you don't have one, you'll make some.
Literally the best show I've ever been to!!! She paid so much attention to the crowd. She noticed that I did my make up like theirs for the show and gave me a shout out! They really love their fans. They took time to meet us and take pictures/sign our things. The drummer is so amazing and energy. XTREME NOW ENERGY!!! We love them!!!
