Biografía
Lambert had displayed serious artistic promise from a young age, representing her hometown of Seattle at an international poetry competition in 2008 and forming the city’s Collegiate team in the discipline a year later, but she would go on to get her big break in the musical world instead; 2012 saw her co-write ‘Same Love’ with hip hop superstars Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The track, which broke new ground for the genre by finally facing up to its longstanding problem with homophobia, saw Lambert draw upon her own experience with sexual abuse and bigotry to write and perform a powerful chorus on the track, which would go onto reach over one hundred million views on YouTube and achieve double platinum status. Lambert played the track at the Grammys, as well as on a slew of major television shows with her fellow Seattleites.
Inspired by this success, she went on to release a debut album in October of 2014, entitled ‘Heart on My Sleeve’, which was preceded by a single release of ‘Body Love’, a largely-spoken word piece which maintained her penchant for social commentary by focusing on issues of body image, particularly in the media. The record debuted at number 29 on the Billboard album charts.

The Everybody Is A Babe Tour Part II was everything I had imagined it would be and a lot more. Sara Brickman's poetry was emotionally charging, full of colorful feelings that made you laugh and think about long after the show was over. Mal Blum's music's were captivating, especially the guitar sounds! Their poem made me smile as well as their commentary before the songs. I loved the song inspired by the Nashville show that they sang alone and the one later they sang with Mary, hoping maybe they will release them as a single someday! I would definetly purchase it. By the time Mary Lambert got on stage I felt so many things at the same time seeing and hearing her perform, ranging from compassion, freedom and acceptance. The songs were like familar friends, the atmosphere of the crowd to the performers were nothing short of fireworks. It was a beautiful night I will always remember. I left that night feeling so blessed to have had the experience. I wish to all the others who see one of the shows of the tour that they have a wonderful experience as well, I don't have any doubts that the whole tour will be nothing short of epic.
As a singer/songwriter and spoken words artist, Mary Lambert is an incredibly talented lyricist, which is what initially drew me to her music. I’m also a huge Macklemore fan, and listening to her collaborations with him over the years has been fantastic. She opened her show with Same Love, which was a collaboration that she actually wrote herself on behalf of gay rights. She got everyone involved with singing the catch chorus, and we were all up on our feet dancing along before she’d even finished her first track.
She played a great selection of her tracks, from her R&B and hip hop music, to her spoken word tracks. It was great that before some of her songs, Lambert would give us in the audience a brief description behind her motivations for the lyrics, which was awesome and gave me a new understanding of the music that I hadn’t taken from her recordings.
Lambert was a enthusiastic and passionate performer, who was completely dedicated to her music and put on a pitch perfect show from start to finish, and was great at transferring her wonderful energy to the audience.
Most may recognise the Seattle songstress Mary Lambert as the guest vocalist on Macklemore's hit single 'Same Love' which tackled prejudices and hatred towards homosexuality and equality in marriage. This is not the first time Mary has delved into her own personal experiences to create music, the debut album 'Heart on My Sleeve' has been described as emotionally charged and it translates well onstage.
Lambert takes every piece of hurt and turmoil that went into writing these songs and translates it perfectly. You feel every bit of the pained passion as she delivers her tracks in note perfect quality. The title track is a particularly rousing performance and leaves Mary looking relatively drained before she thanks the audience for allowing her to share these songs with them. There is no cover of 'Same Love' tonight possibly due to the fact she has no accompanying rapper however she does perform her re-imagination of the narrative 'She Keeps Warm' which is the clear highlight of the evening.
Went to see Mary last night (Thousand Oaks) with my twins girls. She was fantastic! The venue was intimate and the sound was pretty good. Mary is not shy talking about powerful subjects and I was pleased that her music created meaningful discussions with my girls. Mary's new album is coming out next week. The song secret is already getting play and the when you sleep will do well. Mary's opener Young Summer was actually awesome.
