Biografía
At a young age he began listening to some of the best electronic music composers such as Jean Michel Jarre, who had a significant influence on him. Armin van Buuren started to make music at the tender age of 14 after being inspired through listening to mix tapes and by the age of 19 he had already achieved success with the song “Blue Fear”, which was released under Cyber Records.
In the late ‘90s Armin van Buuren’s strong work ethic had him performing multiple nights per week as a DJ at club Nexus in Leiden, Netherlands where he really gained his chops as a performer. He soon began to break into the mainstream when his name made the list in the Top-100 of DJ Magazine. After this he began touring regularly across the country and made appearances at some of the top clubs in Europe such as Passion, Gatecrasher, and Godskitchen.
After the release of several compilation albums that featured his house and trance remixes, he released his debut album “76” in 2003. In this same year his name had escalated up the list to the No. 3 spot for the best DJ in the DJ Magazine and stayed at this rank for the next two years. By 2007 he finally reached the No. 1 spot on DJ Magazine’s list and was headlining huge festivals.
Armin van Buuren is a very prolific musician, who has released loads of remixes and singles. His 2013 album “Intense” achieved him success both commercially and critically. The album reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard US Dance/Electronic Albums chart and received a Grammy nomination for the hit single “This is What it Feels Like”. The album was produced in the most crystal clear manner possible and contained elements of trance, house, dubstep, and classical music.
Being one of the well-respected DJs around, Armin van Buuren has been known to pull in large crowds and constantly sell out his tour dates. His concerts are packed full of excitement and have been known to go on for long periods of time. During one show at the Dancetheater in The Hague, Netherlands he played a record breaking 12 and half-hour set. Armin van Buuren has played to incredibly large crowds such as a packed out crowd at the Ultra Music Festival and to a crowd of 200,000 people at the Museumplein in Amsterdam when he was honoring the Dutch soccer team.
When Armin van Buuren is not writing new music or performing it you can hear him on his radio show “A State of Trance” where he plays the newest trance music out there. Armin van Buuren’s resume is a testament to the caliber of his music. He continues to sell out large amounts of shows and holds the record for most entries on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the US.

The reality of seeing him play live had been making me smile from the minute I bought the tickets, for the whole drive from LA to Vegas and for every second until I heard that first sound from the stage and knew he was ready to blow our minds. He didn't disappoint. I don't think he ever could. The music, the light show, the energy, the fans, DID I SAY THE MUSIC??!! After all these years, he's still able to make the entire crowd lose their minds in the early hours of the morning and only stop dancing if we are taking our last breath. His tunes are pure happiness, reflected in everyones eyes and smiles. Dropping John Lennon's "Imagine" in the mix, followed up shortly by the words all of us love to hear... "I can't get no sleep"... I have chills just remembering the reaction from all the fans inside Marquee when that beat kicked in. Ending with the hypnotic "This is what it feels like"... pretty much brought me to adult tears of joy. Armin Van Buuren. Legend. Get back to the US really, REALLY soon.
I've been a fan since 2001 but my introduction to the culture of listening to DJs perform live came much later. Some of you might think that it makes no difference hearing his music on a CD or live since it's all electronic and he doesn't play an instrument, right? Wrong.
Armin Van Buuren is a master of sound, mixing and crowd participation. And seeing Armin Van Buuren live was truly a memorable experience I will want to repeat. People of all shapes, sizes, ages, and races came to see Armin - and it's not often one sees diverse crowds at music events in Boston.
I'd call the feel of the concert "shamanic", with the pulsing trance-inducing music; the crowd chanting Armin's name; pumping their arms into the air; and Armin himself lit up like a demi-god high priest leading the crowd into this wondrous land where there's no barrier between artist, sound and spectator.
Definitely see him perform live at least once. He's quite a charismatic and appealing person.
Armin...what can I say? nominated as best DJ in the word numerous times, played at best venues in the whole world, talented, enthusiastic, gives it his all! and not to mention so romantically cute: married to his girlfriend from school years who he says inspires him! How can you not adore him? Last year, whilst at Tomorrowland festival 2013, one of the best experiences in my life, he went on stage, just as it started to rain, people absolutely ecstatic to see him live and obviously not caring about any storm; he started crying and apologized for being late on stage as he just got back from hospital, where his son was born. And then he dedicates his new song to his newborn son and the crowd joins in this intimate moment shared with their idol. Being part of this, of this atmosphere, of this music that unites all nations, is simply an incredible experience... unforgettable
Incredible show! Armin is always amazing, and the energy was intense all night. After 2 hours, he still played his 2 best tracks on his new album, Embrace.
The venue (Label) is ok. The quality of the bathrooms on the 2nd & 3rd floors justified the additional expense for the VIP access, even though they still won't let you sit down. My only real complaint about the design is that the large visual display wall is OPPOSITE the DJ (not Behind him)! Instead there are 3 small TV screens spread and fixed to the wall behind/above the DJ. I felt this diminished the experience a little. Plus, I've seen better laser & strobe light integration at other venues. If the label improves those two aspects, it will dramatically improve the trance experience for shows like Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, etc.
I still enjoyed the show...
ASOT 750 Toronto: Awesome show until around 11h00pm It seems like the young crowd could not hold up the Trance for that long (6h00pm to 2h00am). Especially from midnight, most of the crowd wasn't dancing that much. The state of trance got hard to experiment with all this non moving crowd. I really think the young age (around 15 to 18 yrs old) of most attendees was part of the "problem". Finally, it really felt like this situation gave Armin a hard time before he gets inspired by the crowd. Thus, the situation also reflected in Armin's DJing (is choice of songs/of transitions style).
To me, Armin is still among the best DJs. I'll just pay more attention to the minimum age limit next time I attend a Trance show.
Absolutely incredible! I have never, even been swept off my feet, my knees weak and my eyes wet with tears of joy so many times in one night! It was a dream come true to see the King of Trance, Armin Van Buuren at my venue that I go to all the time. It was almost like I was seeing him in my own living room! I made my way to the front and danced the night away! I also, was one of the lucky ones that stayed after and got to see him up close and personal! Thank you Armin for such an amazing performance and for the best set I've seen by you yet! Lots of love, your very devoted fan Rosy (fan since ASOT episode 186)!
was up in the club west section and ohhh what an absolutely insane show this was!!! I couldn't have ever imagined it was going to be so incredible. One of if not the best show I've ever seen at a venue of this size. Sold out crowd of 7,000 I heard. Thank you so much Armin for such an unforgettable performance and I hope to see you back in Minneapolis really soon! Phenomenal job my friend!!
-Mason from Chaska, MN, USA
This was an amazing concert!! Hands down the greatest concert I personally have ever been to. Kygo was great but a very different genre of music which was odd but he was still enjoyable. Armin I hope you come back to philly soon! You were amazing. The after party was sick too! I love KhoMma
Armin is one of my favorite artists. Unfortunately, when i arrived at the show, I was feeling under the weather. Before Armin even came on I had to leave with a severe case of food poisoning. Truly an unlucky turn of events, I don't know when I will get the chance to see him again.
This was absolutely the most incredible experience ever! Armin was so engaged with the crowd from the beginning to the end of the show. He is fun and a happy man who without a doubt love what he does. Thank you Armin and I hope to see you back in LA at least once more this year.
