Warren G

Warren G is a California-based rapper and producer often associated with the famous “g-funk” sound that was mainly popular in the early 90’s. He might not be as well known as his contemporaries from the same era such as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, who have both achieved major crossover success, but hardcore fans of west-coast rap know him as one of the scene’s most influential and respected figures.

The audience at a Warren G show consists of older fans who grew up listening to him, as well as newer fans who might have only heard of him through his association with more popular west-coast titans. Most of his set list comes from his acclaimed debut album, “Regulate… G-Funk Era”, which many more-knowledgeable rap fans consider a minor classic. One song he never, ever fails to play is his biggest hit, “Regulate”, which he will sometimes dedicate to Nate Dogg, who was featured on the track and recently passed away.

As is common at rap shows, Warren G will regularly have quite a few members of his crew on stage with him, which can sometimes serve as a type of stage show, in a way. Sometimes rap might not lend itself well to live performances, but the g-funk sound seems to be an exception. Fans of 90’s west coast rap should not pass up the chance to see Warren G. , one of the unsung heroes of that particular scene.

Warren Griffin III better known by his stage name Warren G is one of the hardest working artists in the hip hop game. Having achieved a global smash in the mid-90's with 'Regulate' he has been touring frequently to prove he is not be considered a one hit wonder.

Now into his forties, the rapper still commands attention when stepping onto stage and the crowd erupts in cheers. He begins to rap at a lightning pace and the crowd clap along with the beat as he showcases his abilities as a freestyler. It is very obvious that with over twenty years experience on the live circuit, Warren is able to run rings around some of the newcomers. He is also able to build frenzy within the audience as they cheer to the introductions of hip hop classics such as 'I Want It All'. By the time he is ready to play 'Regulate' the crowd has enjoyed such a great show that it is simply a highlight in an otherwise high quality set.

Performance was okay. I honestly expected more out of the show. Wasn’t bad just wasn’t great. Probably because it is 2019 and not 1990s.

The venue though is just a smaller version of the Toyato Pavilion before this and security is a joke. Me and my friends left 20 minutes early to try to beat traffic and as we are leaving the doors, people walk in and a lady just stands and says “sir you can’t walk in” while raising her arm but doesn’t take any action.

Like always Warren gave a brilliant show. This man is the true definition of a all around entertainer who in which engages the crowd with every song from the truly old school up until the slightly old school. Ive never missed a show when he hits my town or surrounding cities and don't entend to. The G Child still runs the show.
