When two talented musicians combine forces, you’re usually in for a treat, and Majical Cloudz electronic indie pop sound is exciting and fresh. It’s great to see electronic music played from turn tables and mixing desks performed live with vocals and additional instrumental elements played over the top. Electronic music had be monotonous to watch when the performers are simply disk jockeys, but the talent and skill Majical Cloudz demonstrate is incredible.
They opened the set with Kenneth Welsh and Matthew Otto both on instruments, Welsh playing the synth, and Otto on the mixing desk. They then changed their setup when Otto moved to vocals, with Welsh mixing and playing over the top of him. They played a beautiful extended version of Childhood’s End, and got everyone singing along with the audience. Their energy was totally contagious, and they had everyone in the crowd on their side right from the start of the show.
The duo were also great at working together, and bounced their energy off of each other consistently and continuously. The show was roughly 2 hours long and they maintained their commitment throughout the show. It was a wonderful display if talent from start to finish, definitely worth seeing live.
Majical Cloudz are amazing and powerful in their emotional delivery and charismatic presence and the songs by Devon Welsh are imaginative and poetic, expressing great depth of feeling and rich use of language and musical phrasing…….may I repeat that it is Devon Welsh, not Kenneth, his father, who appears in one of Devon's videos….."Childhood's End"…..DEVON WELSH AND MATTHEW OTTO=MAJICAL CLOUDZ
Walking in to the Chapel is, in itself, quite an experience. These two lovely, soft spoken, men bring such moving sounds to their music. I was so happy to get a chance to spend an evening listening to Devon and Matthew. The energy was static and everyone could feel it. Great show by a great band.
