Introducing Chad VanGaalen, the indie rock multi instrumentalist, opens his introspective set with “Hangman’s Son”, where he plays an electric guitar on a clean setting, with a bass drum at his right foot and a snare at his left, accompanying himself with a simple beat making a fantastic indie pop and experimental sound. It’s fantastic when he goes to the harmonicas too, just doing all of these things at once. “Monster” is the song that he endorses a similar style to the last song, this time adding an impressively haunting falsetto. Lyrically, I’ve got to be honest; this guy’s lyrics are pretty strange. I’m intrigued as to how he puts them together, as they are quite self-loathing, and sang with quite a whiny emo voice, however, something like this would be fantastic on an American TV Show such as The O.C. That would be pretty darn cool, and I would probably used shazam if the app coincided with The O.C ten years ago!
