Sophie Hunger

Born a diplomat's daughter in Bern, Switzerland, Hunger’s musical influences stemmed from her father’s interest in jazz, but later grew to include R&B, hip-hop, rock, as well as country and bluegrass. Having learned to play the piano at a young age, her earliest musical excursion came as a guest vocalist for the group Superterz on their releases from 2002. In 2004 Hunger became the lead singer of the indie-rock outfit Fisher, before the group’s ultimate disbandment in 2007. Featuring Hunger playing the guitar, harp, piano, and singing in multiple languages, the musician’s home-recorded debut “Sketches on Sea” arrived in 2006 and earned a re-release the following year.

In 2007 Hunger contributed her talents to multi-instrumentalist Christian Prader’s national tour, before performing with her own band in the Miles Davis Hall at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2008. Shortly after the show, Hunger issued her first studio effort “Monday’s Ghost” on Two Gentlemen Records, earning widespread critical acclaim. Debuting at No. 1 on the Swiss Album Charts, the record did wonders for the singer’s international exposure and subsequently showcased Hunger’s energetic and revered live show.

Following the international release of the album by Universal Music a year after, in 2010 Hunger released her sophomore studio album “1983”. Once again topping the Swiss Album Charts, the singer subsequently embarked on a European tour which included Glastonbury Festival, The Roundhouse, London and a host of other shows. Towards the tail-end of 2010 the singer issued her self-titled U.S. album, featuring songs from both “1983” and “Monday’s Ghost”. In June 2011 Sophie Hunger was invited to play at the International Jazz Festival in Montreal, Canada, after which she released her third studio album “The Danger of Light”. A year later the live album “The Rules of Fire” arrived, peaked at No. 21 on the Swiss Album Chart, followed by the No. 1 full-length “Supermoon” in 2015.
