Biografía
She began delving into music composition at the age of 16 and began performing her music at youth clubs around town. At a young age she began listening to a diverse range of artists like Marvin Gaye, Billie Holliday, and Siouxsie and the Banshees who had a huge influence on her music. By the age of 17 she moved to London to pursue dancing full time. While pursuing a career in dancing she had the opportunity to be a backup dancer in music videos for many notable acts such as Ed Sheeran, Kylie Minogue, Taio Cruz, and Jessie J.
As FKA twigs was working as a dancer in London she decided to try to pursue her passion for music in her spare time. After recording several tracks in a studio she self-released her debut EP “EP1” and distributed it through Bandcamp. Her EP was released in 2012 and she created music videos for each song on the EP. The EP showed FKA Twigs delving in the style of trip hop music, sounding somewhat similar to groups like Massive Attack and Tricky. Her sound has also been labeled as PBR&B, which is a contemporary style of R&B that artists such as Frank Ocean, The Weekend, and Janelle Monae are also labeled under.
In 2013 FKA twigs released her second EP “EP2”, which was co-produced by Arca and released by the record label Young Turks. The EP also contained a music video for every song and the track “Water Me” was used as the promotional single from the EP. The EP also did well on the charts reaching the No. 5 position on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart and the No. 13 position on the US Heatseekers Albums chart. The music publication Pitchfork gave “EP2” an excellent review and other companies such as Spotify, BBC, and Billboard noted FKA Twigs as an artist to look out for in 2014.
FKA twigs released her debut album “LP1” in 2014. Like her previous EPs the album was lauded by critics and was also nominated for a Mercury Prize for best British album of the year. The album featured the hit singles “Two Weeks” and “Pendulum” and has been labeled one of the best albums of the decade by Pitchfork. The album also achieved commercial success and reached the No. 16 position on the UK charts and the No. 30 position on the US Billboard 200 chart.
After the success of her debut album she appeared on several late night television shows such as “Later with Jools Holland” and “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon”. She has also embarked on a headlining world tour with sold out dates in numerous venues.

FKA Twigs... Where to begin?! She's not been on my radar for long but she's already made an impression. Enough of one to buy tickets for her gig after hearing 2 songs. She kept us waiting at the Dancehouse - Cool little venue by the way - but when she did arrive... Wow. Coming out, dressed in white and corseted up, she catches your eye before she's even opened her mouth. Kicking straight into it, it took her 4 songs before anything approaching gig 'banter'. Her songs have such an ethereal, sexual quality, you don't expect the small London-accented voice when it comes time to talk. But when she does she's sweet, genuine and self-effacing. She maintains the sensual vibe throughout, partly due to some mesmerising dance moves, but mainly through the tunes - Two Weeks, Water Me and Papi Pacify proving to be particular favourites. There's a strong theme of love and relationships running through her songs and this vibe is captured in the live arena. Not really tunes to dance to, but a bit of a sway, a head nod and a shoulder shake to feel the rhythm. It will be interesting to see how her tunes transfer to a bigger venue, but for now, this sort of intimate show is just what FKA Twigs was made for.
First of all I am a musician and a big fan of FKA twigs, and have been for many years. She is an excellent singer dancer and visionary I am so glad that I finally had a chance to see her at the Fox live in Oakland, however I was hoping for more of an elaborate stage setup given her videos and the sound system was not good. Throughout most of the concert you could not hear her vocals over the music which was too bad as she has a lot of deep lyrics and is a great singer, but this could be to the fault of their or her sound person, which in my opinion I don’t believe she had one because at times the overall sound was piercing. As a musician I would have added a low pass filter or a small drop in the eq at the 3K range to her vocals.
I was glad to see at one point that she finally had backup dancers come out and a band as I was worried she would try and do the entire concert by herself which didn’t look good visually as the size of the stage was enormous. Over all I was glad to see her, but I think she needs to invest in her stage production/sound.
This was the second twigs show we saw this year, and while the intimate show at The Westway in spring is probably a memory to cherish for a long time, it is fascinating to see a a new artist make a crowd of 1,500 people go crazy.
Twigs’ new album is not even released yet, but she’s already conquering the music world with her brand of electronic music, often branded as “Experimental R&B”. She’s also a trained dancer and just watching her move on stage is pure enjoyment. There were two moments that showed that this was a special kind of show: once, the audience broke into something like a standing ovation (if there were seats to begin with) as if to show encouragement for an artist who has accomplished so much in so little time. Then, after the show, almost everybody ignored the lights and house music, hoping she would come back for a song or two. She didn’t.
FKA Twigs is an outstanding artist and her show left me speechless. The production was perfect and left the audience surprised and amazed. The live band made the songs so much better than I thought they could be and the dancers were out of this world. FKA Twigs sings so well live, while dancing at the same time. I can't praise her enough and can't wait to see her again. I'm just astounded at the value for money considering how much work has gone into creating not just a gig but a piece of art.
First discovered Fka twigs through James Blake as she was a supporting act for his show and immediately I fell in love. So when I had the opportunity to see her live I jumped at the chance. And omg was she amazing. She was giving the most life with the mesmerising dancing and singing... She is also so sweet and endearing ... This is a night I won't forget for a long time... The fact that the support act never showed is forgotten
Unlike anything I've ever seen. Pure theater, paired with a consistent and strong creative intelligence that puts her years past anyone that feels like a contemporary. Her dance ability alone transcends any expectations of what you deserve to see from a concert, and when paired with excuisit costumes, mind bending background dancers, and her almost fragile voice, you're left with a really special night.
Unforgettable musical, artistic and even athletic performance. Want to experience a spiritual awakening? Go to her show. Everyone, including me, was sobbing during her performance of 'Mirrored Hearts'.
Amsterdam was the last location of her MAGDALENE tour, you best believe we gave a standing ovation to her and the other talented amazing performers that night. Stanned.
AMAZING. I love her!!! I was completely entertained. For someone to be on the stage by herself with the exception of her band members, but no background dancer or singers what so ever FKA knows how to work a stage and make her audience feel good! I can't wait to see her again in concert. I highly recommend anyone to go to her concert. Love Love Love her!!!!!!
Such a great show. Everything I wanted to see I saw. Odd looking outfit, check! Crazy Dance moves synced up with the beat, Check! Squeaky voice, check! ha. Anytime she comes by the LA/OC area I'll definitely see her again. Just hope she continues doing relatively small venues, more intimate feeling ha (sounding so feminine haha)
i loved it. i love her. i died a little bit inside every time she did a body roll. i saw proof of gods existence when she walked into the room. she started performing kinda late but its ok because she is perfect. i want her to tuck me in my bed and sing me to sleep. i am unworthy xoxo Joaquin m.
