Biografía
Grant and Siljamäki were college buddies at the University of Westminster and formed the label Ajunabeats in the summer of 1999. The label produced music under the names “Dirt Devils,” “Free State,” and the label name “Ajunabeats.” The first single under Ajunabeats called “Volume One” garnered the attention of Warner Music Group’s Tony McGuiness. Together with Grant and Siljamäki, McGuiness decided to collaborate on a remix of Chakra’s song “Home.” Thus, Above and Beyond was born.
The group was fundamentally known to produce remixes of hit songs, notably “What It Feels Like For a Girl” by Madonna in 2001. At the time, they also worked with artists Adamski, Fragma, Delerium, and Japanese artist Ayumi Hamaski.
Following the collab with Hamaski, Above and Beyond was introduced to a huge audience in Tokyo in 2002 and their popularity expanded soon thereafter. Madonna commissioned the trio to remix another song “Nobody Knows Me.”
It was not until 2006 that the trio decided to release an album of original songs entitled “Tri-State” which shook up the EDM and trance music industry. They received much love and attention in the UK and from ULTRA festival site, Miami, FL. The single “Air For Life” was concluded to be Tune of the Year in 2005 by the radio show “State of Trance.” The following year “Good for Me” featuring Zoë Johnston was declared Tune of the Year for 2006. The song “Alone Tonight” with Richard Bedford won the best trance track of 2006 at the 22nd International Dance Music Awards in Miami.
On 6 June 2011 Above and Beyond’s sophomore album “Group Therapy” was released with vocals by Richard Bedford and Zoë Johnston. It reached #1on the iTunes Dance Album chart. The album contains both fast-paced trance and mellower rhythms. The hits “Thing Called Love” and “Sun and Moon” both featuring Bedford became favorites on the airwaves in the UK.
Above and Beyond hosts a weekly radio show called Group Therapy Radio, and celebrated their 100th episode in October 2014 at Madison Square Garden in New York, U.S. The name Above and Beyond comes from a poster by American motivational trainer Jono Grant’s motto “Above and Beyond.”

Good God, Thank you! This show was unforgettable, incredible, mind-blowing, life changing, amazing... Everything you'd expect from an Above & Beyond production and then some!!! This is my 3rd or 4th time seeing them live in the States and they pulled out all the stops to celebrate Group Therapy 100. Madison Square Garden was packed with beautiful people ready to share and promote the Anjunabeats message of love and unity, ready to dance together for hours. We arrived just before 8pm to kick things off with Iian Bluestone. He set the tempo playing a very melodic yet energetic set. The Garden started to really fill up mid way through. Andrew Beyer took it to the next level from 9-10pm. Lots of energy and a few new tracks... Definitely edgier than Bluestone, but nothing compared to what was about to hit the massive sound system next. Mat Zo took the decks to a full house at 10pm. Proudly promoting his new label, he threw down arguably the best set of the night out of the three opening acts, depending on who you ask. Really a toss up between he and Beyer. Don't make me choose. Finally, the legends themselves. The place was going nuts when Tony, Jono & Paavo took the stage (for obvious reasons) and the last of the LED panels flashed to life. They opened with their newly released track We're All We Need and took the crowd of 20,000+ on an emotional journey for the following two hours. As usual the visuals and graphics were mind blowing. They played about a solid hour of brand new, unreleased material... 3IDs plus new tracks from Anjunabeats label guys and then sprinkled in all of the favorites, playing a total of two hours. They closed the night with a Thing Called Love, and also announced a show in LA where I currently reside (helps take the edge off the fact this night had to end)! As I type, I'm currently on a flight back to the west coast after a truly once in a lifetime 24 hr Above and Beyond experience. If you haven't seen Above and Beyond, you owe it to yourself that's all I can say. Thank you to my friends who joined me from all over the country for this very special night, you know who you are! Take care of one another, and until next time...Dream on little dreamers!
Tony McGuinness, Paavo Siljamaki, and Jono Grant are three incredible human beings who have the talent to take music and turn it into an emotionally profound state of mind, a sense of everything beautiful, Above & Beyond leave their fans, their listeners, and their audience, a feeling of something way Beyond one I can begin to describe.
Above & Beyond does not create what you would think to be as just "electronic music", the group took their talents and their intelligence with instruments, singing, and their interests in electronic music to form something that really is Above & Beyond. The lyrics and melodies formed in a song promote one thing more than anything, love, pure love, the kind of love that stays with you over time. The group has the upmost capability, through what they do best, to completely transform ones outlook on life and the things around them.
Being given the chance to see them in March of 2013 was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. They did one thing that not all musicians do, they made a connection with the crowd before they started playing, a bond with the crowd as if we were their closest and dearest friends. As the show began and I felt the vibrations of the sounds, and the energy of nothing but happiness, I thought to myself, we are some incredibly lucky people to be able to be here right now. I never thought there was so much you could learn from a group of musicians, they make music but most importantly they leave an impact on hundreds of thousands around the world. As Tony McGuinness said in the midst of their experience doing "Above & Beyond Acoustic" (look up on youtube!), "we don't tend to just stick a bit of vocals over a track, that's not the way that we work" those words can give you an idea of the complexity and brilliance behind the group that really goes Above & Beyond.
I saw Above&Beyond live in Antwerp, in a small venue called Trix.
The supporting act was Grum, a DJ of whom I'd never heard before. He didn't really create much ambiance, and the crowd never really responded to him. His repetitive drops might have had something to do with that.
Then, A&B came on set, and showed everyone what a live show was supposed to be like. They started of with "We're all we need", prompting the crowd to sing along. The graphics were top-notch, the live-typing created an amazing atmosphere and their music was, as always, amazing.
Their set lasted a little over 2 hours, and never once did my attention waver. Above&Beyond has once again that they truly are artists.
Phenomenal! Honestly, seeing Above & Beyond Acoustic live has been one of the best performances I have had the opportunity to attend. I first saw them play acoustically at the Greek Theater which was brilliant and when I found out about them playing in Chicago I knew I had to see them again. The venue was perfect and the music was magnificent. I have also seen their EDM performance and although it is great in it's own way, nothing compares to the magic they bring performing acoustically.
If you haven't gone, go! And if you have and loved it as much as me, go again!I know will if I have the opportunity!
The most amazing show I have ever been to. Being able to hear the real Zoe Johnston and Justine Suissa sing their legendary songs so faultlessly with the amazing band behind them was just incredible. Every song was so emotional and moving, Above + Beyond have the power to make you really feel something no matter if they are playing their usual style of gig or be it in the most beautiful acoustic format such as what our night was, in none other than the splendid Sydney Opera House. It was certainly a night I'll treasure in my heart forever, thank you so much Tony, Jono and Paavo.
Well, every time you see Above & Beyond, it just gets a bit better!! Above & Beyond at House of Blues Boston was a different experience for me. No friends were in town so i was on my own and having missed ABGT100 i was not giving up this time... I had read pretty mixed reviews about the venue (mostly negative ones) but that wasnt going to stop me either! I am happy i made it this time and i really hope to catch them on this tour again (im thinking DC next week maybe!!!) ... Oh and did i say that i made another friend thanks to Above and Beyond?!!! We are all we need!
The show last night was absolutely beautiful. Fantastically orchestrated in every sense of the word. I was blown away by the level of talent on that stage. I am not as familiar as I would like to be with Above and Beyond's entire collection of music but the following they have is impressive. It was really something special seeing that performance and I am happy to have been apart of it. I highly highly recommend this show to anyone even if you don't know there music the melody will have you in a trance <3
ABGT200 was awesome!
Very good show, almost flawless (1 very bad dubstep kinda like climax around 25 minutes before the end of their main set, but let's call that experimenting).
Atmosphere, extras for the show like visuals, facilities, everything was topnotch.
Good venue for this type of music as well.
All in all, one of the best if not the best party I have been to. I have been to a lot of these kind of parties, but this was on another level.
Incredible. Absolutely amazing experience. What did I just witness??! Love, understanding, and down the rabbit hole we went into this crazy underworld that was simultaneously in outer space where the bass line is your heartbeat and the language spoken is you dancing your heart out. Angst, troubles, worries all disintegrate when in the glow of these talented men. The second it was over I wanted it to start again. THANK YOU A&B I LOVE YOU
