AC have become my favourite band to watch, I will take any chance to see them these days I hold their music so high in artistic quality.
Starting with Glastonbury festival, post Merriweather Post Pavilion material on. I've since seen them on 2 other occasions and I've yet to be disappointed, they have always been the kind of act that blows other bands out of the water. I know few other bands that could compete with them and the thought of watching all those bands together scares me I fear I wouldn't be able to handle it! XD
They are definitely not a social band, if you wanted to see a band like... Connan or Sufjan say, they will talk to the audience a lot, in Connans case encourage you into becoming a part of the show with them.
AC on the other hand will walk on and play their music, and they never seem to stop! These guys rarely stop in between songs, they'll just slowly swap loopers and transition into the next song. Often they are shrouded in the light shows too, simply they aren't there to become pop stars, their success is attained through their individual inputs into this pool that is their creative collective.
The transition effects are quite unique, I've yet to notice many other bands copy this approach, and it can create a shrouded mystery game as you try to guess what song they're beginning to play next.
AC's have been great trend setters for quite sometime and maintain much originality to themselves, while in their live performances, you can clearly see a lot of passion, love and concentration from each member of the band, there is an energetic vibe batted between them, and while you may feel invisible to them, they become all you can see and overwhelm you with great quality artistically driven music.
I just saw them yesterday 09/06/2021. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly...I had been into some of their studio work, lightly, and have some musician friends that hold them in high esteem. I often find it hard to listen through an entire album of theirs, but some of the stuff is very interesting, unique, well produced, and evokes original kinds of feelings. That being said this was the worst show I have ever seen, by far, in my life (and I have seen many many shows). Caterwauling is the word that comes to mind. Caterwauling to bland electronic fuzz and poor instrumentation with bad sound quality. A mercifully short show. I feel I should get my money back on this one. It was atrocious, of the lowest quality imaginable. The visual set up was a projector which was blasting high school craft art all over the stage and behind it. The best part about the show was that the lights would light up the trees sometimes and I would think "trees sure are pretty" before my ear holes were assaulted again by these talent-less "arteests". I think people like animal collective because it makes them feel smart and hip to like something that no one could possibly like. For $45 a ticket you'd think the band would actually try to make some music up on that stage. Price to quality ratio, the absolute worst possible show and I will continue to tell anyone who asks me to, for the love of God, avoid this band.
I've seen Animal Collective twice. Both times in 2013. The first time I saw them was at The Bonnaroo Music & Arts festival in Manchester, TN. They took the stage at 2:00am and for the next two hours I experienced pure bliss. My Girls and Brother Sport live are two of the greatest moments of my life - I've never seen a crowd more into a show. The rest of this show was amazing as well. One of the best shows I've ever seen (I've seen a lot). Their most recent album was Centipede HZ, but the set didn't focus on this material. It was more of a career spanning set. Purple Bottle and What Would I Want? Sky were other highlights. The second time I saw them was at the Midland in Kansas City. This show was great as well, but it didn't quite capture the Bonnaroo magic. This set focused more on Centipede HZ material (which is one of my least favorite Animal Collective albums).
Both shows they had the same trippy and psychedelic stage. It suits their music perfectly.
See this band if you have the chance. Avery Tear, Panda Bear, Geologist, and Deekin won't let you down.
I couldn't miss the opportunity to see Animal Collective live. I've been listening to their music and side projects since Sung Tongs came out and I think this was only the second time they've played in Houston since then. I'll say I haven't enjoyed their more recent Animal Collective releases as much as some of their solo efforts, but the live show for the most part was still great. I really enjoyed the Psyche vibe they added on top of everything and the visuals were insane. In one word, the show was trippy.
This is the best concert I think I have ever been to. I wasn't a huge fan of Animal Collective, I just went because my friends were going. We got there, and the opener, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, was mesmerizing. She played some really chill music on an analog synth. Then the band came out, and three of them were playing synths and one on drums. It blew me away. I really recommend going, and if they come back to Atlanta, there is a very good chance that I will go again.
My experience, seeing animal collective for the first time, was entirely sublime. Walking in those doors stoned, and, I came ear to sound. Feeling the aura of all those around me, I met nothing but smiles, everyone on the same good vibes. Also, the band was spot on, playing shit I, an eight year fan, had never heard. And plenty I had. Really go see em' if ya find the chance.
They are UNREAL live. The crowd is amazing too; everyone is in such good spirits and having the time of their lives. They play different setlists at every show so you never know what you're gonna get. Their songs all transition beautifully and it's such a unique experience; if I could go to every show they play, I easily would.
oh wow..
Panda Bear and Avey tare did combine the perfect cohesion --- surprising for a live gig --- with the really impressive psychedelic aura coming from their music, which I very much expected from their live gig. so cool to have an opportunity to hear them play Sung Tongs which i didn't have back in 2004.
Super good gig lastnight at the Ritz, Manchester.
Really lively, really tight. Would without a doubt go and see them again. Panda Bear, Geologist and Avey Tare are complete geniuses. Great session drummer as well!
Epic. Amazing. Panda Bear's voice is like an angel. Avey Tare singing "bees" was the best vocal performance I've heard from them. The set was colorful and interactive. 10/10 for my fav band!
