Cherry Poppin' Daddies have been swinging through the scene for decades. Stemming from their roots in Eugene, Oregon in 1989 the Cherry Poppin' Daddies have seen it all, from small time venues all the way up to big festivals and huge crowds. In the mid 90's a few of their songs such as Zoot Suit Riot gained international notoriety in the ska and swing craze that took over many of the radio stations in that time. Since then they have been touring recreationally, and putting out albums every 5-6 years as one of the genres long standing acts performing some of the liveliest punk/swing you're likely to see.
These days they play smaller venues, like the one I saw them in -- American Theater in St. Louis. This was years ago, but they still bring the same vibe as in their hey-day of the 90's. The stage was fairly intimate and the 5-600 fellow fans in the crowd were ready to skank and swing to any song Cherry Poppin' Daddies could throw at them!
If you're a fan of ska-punk or swing, then you'll want to check out one of their shows -- especially if you like acts such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Reel Big Fish, or Goldfinger. They are as enthusiastic on stage as they are on their albums, which says a lot these days with older acts seeming to "go through the paces" on tour.Be sure to check them out, and put on your dancing shoes next time they come around, and let Dan Schmid and Steve Perry show you how its done swing style!
