MONO - not to be confused with the Irish rock band, who don’t stylise their name in all capitals like this particular outfit - are one of the most important post-rock bands in Japanese history; over the course of a colourful fifteen year career to date, they’ve released six studio albums, each of which has played with the boundaries of their genre in its own unique way. Their most recent record, For My Parents, met with some of the strongest reviews of the group’s career, and confirmed them as one of the few instrumental rock bands that have genuinely evolved with each release to date; they might hail from Tokyo, but they’re very much in thrall to Western shoegaze and ambient bands. Their live shows, too, have been a major part in reinforcing their formidable reputation; they’re incredibly atmospheric affairs that use the volume dial like a weapon, capable of swinging from one sonic extreme to the other in the blink of an eye. Later this month, they’ll make their UK return at the ArcTangent festival in Bristol, after a two year absence; expect a genuinely incendiary affair, with a moody light show, impressively technical guitar work and atmosphere by the truckload all present and correct.
A wonderful night at the Triffid, the perfect venue for Mono and their support acts
BKB started well laying the foundations for an evening of noise, power and energy, followed by Dumbsaint from Sydney. Two bands to keep an eye out for.
Mono entered the stage in total darkness and softly led us into the mayhem that comes with Mono. Listening to them as loud as you like at home on your stereo etc does not prepare you for the energy unleashed in their live performances. To be seen to be believed, very little interaction and until the encore no words shared but none needed.
A powerful experience in which the hairs on the back of my neck were constantly in alert, visceral and overwhelming, absolutely brilliant concert
Missed the support band, as having a few at Rouge and Vagabond round the corner...great bar. Got to San Fran, and MONO just setting up, right from then knew it was gonna be amazing.Incredible band and small but excellent crowd made for a great night, and with the way things are now, just got the gig in, before restrictions due to bloody Coronavirus kicked in, loved every minute of gig, cheers MONO true pros and incredible musicians!!!!
Intense, passionate and brilliant! Alcest were very good as well - although I had little knowledge of this band beforehand. It's the first time I've seen MONO play live and would recommend them to anyone interested in this type of music.
I came across MONO on Spotify via the recommended section when I was building my post rock playlist.
The venue (O2 Academy in Leicester) was good. Drinks were pricey and the venue was cold.
Got there around 8:30pm. I was shock on how full venue was! They show was absolutely amazing! Full of energy.
The only downfall, which was the Great American Music Hall venue's fault, was the lighting really suck! You were enjoying their music and all of nowhere, their bright "construction working lights" would flash in your eyes! You can tell this bothered many people who had to close their eyes and hide from the light.
I could have done without Helen Money. It was embarrassing watching her. And Mono was just an hour and a half... (not a top performance at that.)
Yasunori was the best by far, he's an excellent drummer and the other members just have to keep up with him. Taka had some good parts also.
6 out of 10 for the general experience, and 7.5 for Mono's performance.
Another great concert on a good venue and these guys are freaking amazing, but live they are out of this world!
If you never saw them live and you're into post-rock the next time they're around do yourself a favor, buy a ticket go see them, because they're totally worth it!
All about Mono music was perfect but it was to crowded and unfurtunetly capacity of that place was not suitable for this population !
The other things when ticket master send me my tickets the odress that they make it as signs was wrong and I arived late àbout 1 houer.
Love these guys. Great band. But it was WAY too loud. My buddy and I can't hear today (constant ringing in our ears) and we weren't even directly in front of a speaker. If you're seeing Mono, or seeing a show at the Horseshoe, I would recommend you bring ear plugs!
One of the best concerts I have ever been to! Club Dada had a great sound system, and the crowd was small and filled with fans! The music was amazing from start to finish and it was exhilarating and soothing all at once. Can't wait to listen to them again!
