There is a great misconception about so called 'classic rock' bands nowadays. The bands that were at their biggest in the 70s and 80s and have since reformed with a changed line-up and are out touring again.
There are many who see this as one last money-making venture but whilst this may be true for some bands Magnum are one of the exceptions.
Their high points did come in the 80s but in terms of their live show they seem to be going from strength to strength as they get older, much like a fine wine or cheese.
Never ones to disappoint the Birmingham prog rockers know how to please their fans when it comes to their setlist. Sets includes a variety of classics but also a bunch of new songs, which at the moment come from their 2014 album 'Escape from the Shadow Garden'.
A Magnum show offers everything you could want from a classic rock show; the big flailing hair, big hits and a crowd that can't get enough of seeing these seasoned veterans still able to have control over their audience in such a spectacular fashion.
Even after being a band for 40 years - excluding a six year hiatus and a number of line-up changes - Magnum are undeniably still as rocking as they were when they founded in 1972.
Sure, live shows may not be as big or as frequent as they used to be, with a number more of them being festival appearances, but you can be sure that when you go to see them you will not leave feeling undersold.
Having seen them multiple times I feel confident in saying that whether you're seeing them for the first time or for the tenth time there will always be a surprise in store and an energy that is rare to see from an older band nowadays.
Here's hoping that Magnum stick around for a few more years and continue to rock every stage they step foot on.
Well, I finally managed to see Magnum in concert. They were brilliant. Not much chat (which suited me) and the songs flowed from old to new without hesitation.
The atmosphere was amazing and the band really made the evening a good one - including spending time with the fans after the gig.
Again, I cannot say how good this makes the fabs feel, knowing that they (the band)have just played their socks off, yet still have time to say hello to us.
Would I see them again? YES - without giving a second thought.
The gig didn't go ahead due to the weather (the venue called it off - the band would have been happy to play!), but in all fairness to the band, they paid for those of us who did make it to have a drink.
And they spent a good couple of hours talking to fans and signing autographs.
Would I go? Hell yes. I can think of other bands who would say "that's it - the gig is off, we don't need to stick around" But Tony and Bob were gents and they made it worth the hassle to get to the venue.
I've seen Magnum numerous times over the years and they have never failed to deliver live...
On the back of an awesome latest album expectations were high.
A strong mix of new tracks and some older favourites, including an unexpected and recently rare rendition of Don't Wake The Lion which was awesome and worth the admission on its own!
Roll on another tour...(if only I could get to Cardiff tonight)..
I've watched magnum in concert for the last 20 to 30 years now...they never disappoint..the best band ever...I only watched half of the concert on Saturday and had to go ( I was so gutted) this was due to the awful train service last train was at 2249 to Preston. Absolute shocking for a Saturday night..really not happy..:-(
I've been following magnum since 1986.they are a brilliant band. I took my nephew to see them a few years ago. He's never looked back.that's how brilliant magnum are.11th December magnum were superb. I don't think I've ever been to a disappointing show. If you don't go to see magnum, you don't know what your missing.
That was fab gig. Last time I saw them was 30 years ago on vigilante tour at the playhouse. They may have aged but still can rock. Support band Vega were very good as well. Don't think I would wait another 30 years to see them
Kingdom of Madness ........
