Biographie
El DeBarge grew up in Detroit, Michigan, US, as one of ten children, spending his youth singing in the local church choir. DeBarge, along with his siblings, were heavily involved with music growing up, performing regularly. His elder brothers, Bobby and Tommy, found success in the group, Switch, and later brought in their siblings to form DeBarge, signing to Motown Records in 1980. Through the label’s mentoring, the group went on to be a success in the early-1980s, creating the hits “All This Love,” “Love Me in a Special Way,” “Who’s Holding Donna Now” and “Rhythm Of The Night.” After recording four albums with DeBarge, El left the band to pursue a solo career in 1985.
In 1986, DeBarge released his first solo record, a self-titled album that featured the number three hit “Who’s Johnny?,” which went on to be featured in the soundtrack for hit film, “Short Circuit.” “love Always” also featured on the record, peaking at number 43 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album itself reached number 24 in the Billboard 200 Album Chart and was certified Gold. DeBarge followed his debut with 1989’s “Gemini,” which failed to match his previous success.
DeBarge then left Motown, moving to Warner Bros. Records for 1992’s “In The Storm” and 1994’s “Heart, Mind & Soul,” with neither album being particularly successful. DeBarge then retreated from making music, falling into drug addiction, a battle which would last over a decade, frequently spending stints in rehab as he tried to overcome his personal issues. After serving a prison sentence for violating his probation, DeBarge returned with 2010’s “Second Chance,” on Interscope Records, returning to form, with the album peaking at number 57 in the Billboard charts. He then went on to perform at the 54th Grammy Awards ceremony in February 2012.

Omg! The El Debarge show was absolutely great! At 55 yrs of age, Eldra is moving and dancing like a 27yrs old man. He would put some of the young artists to shame! I love how he interacted with his fans, especially the ladies He started pulling women on stage to dance eith him and I thought I'd die then. If I had been any clser to that stage, I would've made it my business to dance with him. He talks about making a grown man cry, I would have. Those women were good sports, but they couldn't keep up wih El's dancing. Not even when he asked for a señorita. All she wanted to do was kiss om him. Lol One young lady got up there and shook everything that wasn't nailed down, but what she had shaken, I'm not sure was in the right places. So El heads off the stage into my direction to dance eith more ladies and got a bit mobbed down there. I then noticed manager, Pete Farmer, come to the rescue pulling El back onto the stage as if he was saying, El what were you thinking of coming off stage into a mob of women by yourself! LOL It was exciting, and such a phenomenal experience. El sounds great! Still hitting every note spot on. I was determined that if he didn't see me, he would hear me, so I then screamed aloud, "You're a beautiful man El!" lol there were chuckles around me, then El says in a soft sensual voice, "Thank you!" Wow... That really made my night! If I could have gone back to that 2nd show he did at the Birchmere that next night, I would have. Love the intimacy if the Birchmere. You feel reall3clise to the entertainer. There really wasn't a bad seat in the house.

His soft, smooth voice melds with those of the back up singers, and the jazzy tunes coming from the drums, guitar, piano, and horn have the audience swaying along to the beat. Eldra Patrick “El” DeBarge, a singer/songwriter from Michigan, is a versatile musician. He plays a mix of R&B, jazz, gospel, pop, soul, and hip hop. He has done extensive work in the music industry, both solo and in collaboration with other artists, including his brothers. His first album, El DeBarge, was released in 1986. He followed that in 1989 with Gemini, then came In The Storm in 1992, Heart, Mind and Soul in 1994, and Second Chance in 2010. He has also released multiple singles. “Who's Johnny”, released in 1986, was listed No. 1 on the US R&B chart list and No. 3 on the US chart list, and “Real Love” made No. 8 on the US R&B chart list. El DeBarge's sonorous falsetto has been celebrated for generations, and will continue to be loved by many for years to come.

Hello. I'm very happy to give my opinion about the El Debarge show at BB King's on Oct.21 2017.
The show was a 7:30 pm venue Show started at approximately 8:10 pm. El came on with energy and enthusiasm. His voice was sharp and in rare form.Which you would expect from him. Now my problem is that I believe this venue doesn't do him justice. The show was too short (Ended around 9:10)Only an hour? Because there was another act after him? Really!! He did nothing of his new music, which I was hoping to hear a combination of old and new( The Second Chance CD) I think El could do a larger venue, perhaps like Westbury Music Fair? Felt Forum? Barclay's? I would have liked to have seen him as the major act, the headliner.A lot of people were disappointed with the show ending so soon after waiting in line for hours and starting late. I don't know who's at fault but I wouldn't go to BB King's again for such a short show. I spent a lot of my hard earned money almost a total of $400.00.(Tickets, Food, Drinks) Love El Debarge but not this way. Give the brother his props. A Larger venue, and Top Billing. At least 2 hours! He's Earned It! He can draw the big crowds trust me! Thanks for letting me share my thoughts.

I saw El Debarge a few years back at a night club in Marietta, Ga. theyhad a wrestling match with these two crazy huge sumo looking guys wearing thongs. The women were absolutely wild haha! I think El has the most beautiful voice I ever heard and I couldnt believe my luck in getting to see him him live. I made my husband go with me haha! We were the only white people in the entire club. It was an out of body experience as I stood about 20 feet from him and watched angels fly out of his mouth….and tears streaming down my face. He’s the bomb. I’m sorry he has had some hard lessons to learn along the way, but nothing can take away that kind of talent. I hope to see him again some day❤️

El DeBarge is my favorite R&B performer, but he disappointed quite a few concert goers on March 28 at the King's Theatre in Brooklyn, N.Y. He didn't show up, and no formal explanation was given. I was so disappointed. I traveled from N.C. to see him in concert for the very first time ever and he wasn't there. I still love El, but my first impression of attending a concert with him as a headliner has been tainted.

Well,I still haven't seen Mr.DeBarge, live yet. It's so sad, I already have my outfit, I bought it when I made his bday gift both were for if I ever have the opportunity to meet him.
Does anyone know if he has any shows coming up soon?? Or should I just let it go finally?, I've been trying since 2015 starting to think it's just not meant to be.

I REALLY DID ENJOYED LISTENING TO EL BECAUSE I GREW UP HIS MUSIC N I REMEMBER SEEING THE ENTIRE GROUP IN EAST SAINT LOUIS AT JONES PARK.KNOWING HIS LIFE HISTORY AS FAR AS DEALING WITH DRUG ABUSE I WAS REALLY GONNA SUPPORT EL.HE SOUNDS AND LOOKS GREAT.

It was a fabulous performance. I just wish I had been able to sit a little closer to the stage and if there had been a meet and greet. El is and always will be my most favorite artist in the world and has been for over 33 years.

There's nothing better than hearing classic R&B music! El DeBarge hasn't lost his touch. His smooth and silky voice, his handsome looks and his ever so sexy style is still there. This is a night I will LOVE ALWAYS!

I haven’t seen EL DeBarge or his brother Chico I really wish one day they would come this way My brother-in-law said he seen EL in Texas day after Valentine day and he said he really enjoyed it
