Chris had an interest in hip hop and rap music from a young age, he started listening to Eminem and after finding an adoration for the artist he began writing his own raps in sixth grade. He pursued his passions through education, Webby attended Hofstra University on Long Island, New York which is where he first generated buzz as a rapper by free styling at frat houses. During his sophomore year he was arrested on March 27, 2009 in connection with a failed robbery attempt of a drug dealer on Hofstra University campus. After this he was ejected from the university which forced the young artist to focus on his music career.
On June 3, 2011, Webby released the mixtape 'Webster's Laboratory'. The mixtape featured guest appearances from rappers Freeway, Gorilla Zoe and Apathy and was received particularly well by critics. He followed this later that year with the EP titled 'There Goes the Neighborhood'. The EP was released by his record label Homegrown Music and features a guest appearances by Slaine. It was considered a commercial success for an underground hip hop artist after it peaked at number 101 on the Billboard 200, number 13 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and topped the Heatseekers Albums chart. To support the release, Webby embarked on a 40 date North American tour shortly after the release.
In mid-2013 he signed a record deal with independent powerhouse eOne Music. He shortly released a single called 'Down Right' which went on to feature on the track-listing of the 'Homegrown' EP, his first release through eOne Music. The debut album 'Chemically Imbalanced' was released in late 2014 and features appearances from Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, Tech N9ne. It featured the preceding single 'F*ck Off' and due to the artist's growing fan-base the album charted at #25 on the US Billboard charts with first week sales of 13,000 units.

Known for his knockout collaborations with various big names in the rapping and hip hop world, 25 year old Chris Webby really has some great talents of his own to bring to the table. The White Noise LP, his first and most successful album released in 2009 gave him great exposure to the rapping world.
For the price of the ticket, I wasn’t expecting Webby to be on stage for more than 45 minutes, but he exceeded all of my expectations, performing solidly for well over an hour. His powerful lyrics seemed to hit home and resonate with the crowd much more intensely than on the recordings, and it’s great to take something new from a live performance, so this touch was really special. Webby’s performance energy is outstanding. He is not only engaged with his music, but with the audience as well, singling people out, as well as addressing the entire crowd. To get the audience engaged, Webby started with some of his most well known tracks, like Bounce, and I Need a Dollar, and from then, everyone started jamming and dancing, and no one looked back! His stage presence and commitment to his music is wonderful – one of the best rappers I have ever seen live.
Where an artist plays has a lot to do with the performance. This venue is really small and the stage is about 2 feet off the floor. If you are short, it makes it difficult to see anything on the stage. And the audio was terrible.
I saw Webby the first time when he toured with Tech9 and I was instantly a fan. After his set, he was hanging out back by the merchandise table and I went back there and bought his album and he signed if for me.
At this particular show at Venue Oakland, he didn't come talk to any of his fans after he played. There were maybe 50 people at the show and for such a small gathering, I thought he would for sure come and hang out with his fans after his set.
He barely came back out for an encore.
I was a little bit disappointed. I blame it on the Venue and won't stop appreciating Webby for what he does. I would simply pick and choose where I will see him next time. The small venues can be nice sometimes, but this particular Venue was not.
And I think that when there is such a small gathering of people; maybe Webby should consider hanging out. It wouldn't take much time to give us a little bit of his time.
Connecticut rapper Christian Webster, a.k.a Chris Webby appears to be earning his place on the cut throat hip hop circuit after some moderate commercial success in the States and collaborations with some of the most respected names in the business including Mac Miller, Joell Ortiz and Wiz Khalifa.
Currently touring to promote his debut album 'Chemically Imbalanced' there is no doubt the young artist is not short of confidence as he saunters onto stage and laps up the applause. His tongue in cheek lyrical style paired with his cheeky performance style is all pretty cocky but it matches the music and the fans respond to it well. Although Chris may not appear to be the most serious of performers, there is no doubt he is focused when rapping the verses to material found from his debut. He also plays a couple of tracks from early EPs which allows the early fans to make themselves known as they bellow out the choruses 'Rap Nemesis' and 'Only Way To Go'. He finishes on 'Skyline' rapidly without any warning and leaves the crowds cheering for more as he briskly exits the stage.
In this unfortunate hip-hop climate we are in,where real M.C.s are overshadowed by rappers using their influence to promote drug use and unrealistic material gain, Chris Webby is one of the few M.C.s left in the game. And is the most talented lyricist in hip-hop without question. Above all of that, his willingness to sacrifice material wealth for truth and loyalty is what puts him above the rest.
Needless to say, the show didn't disappoint. What I didn't expect was to be so impressed with Anoyd. His energy, stage presence and lyrical ability worked perfectly alongside an M.C. who would overshadow most.
Unfortunately, the most talented lyricists aren't the richest or most famous. And spreading positive energy and using your voice for good isn't what makes you the biggest. But it makes you the best.
