Daft Punk on tour? It sounds like some kind of mystical legend, or a very distant memory to most. But to me, I can remember it like it was yesterday. I’m not usually one to write reviews, but the French electronic music duo are something that, if you get a chance, you have to experience live, I can not express the atmosphere of their performance.
The Alive show boasted an epic audio-visual pyramid from which they played their music, which was their platform for spreading the dance music of the era. From start to finish, the whole audience didn’t stop dancing, and the outdoor venue at Wireless was perfect for the spectacular lighting and sound balance. The duo in their robot suits, a characteristic of theirs, transported the crowd of thousands on a psychedelic journey into the realms of dance. It seemed like everyone in the audience knew every song, something that rarely happens at a festival. It was, hands down, the best live music I have ever experienced.
Random Access Memories stands in complete opposition to their previous albums, yet it has been my favourite album since its release last year and I am constantly scouring the internet in hope of the announcement of an album tour. I know it would be just as epic as the last.
Most of the music I listen to bears little resemblance to Daft Punk. That said one can't help but be aware of them and familiar with many of their songs.
Seeing them live in Japan in 2007 was an experience I will never forget. Granted I was with great friends and was chemically in a very happy place, but the sound in that concert hall was unlike anything else I'd ever experienced. Every person within Makuhari Messe (a large concert venue outside Tokyo) was transported outside of themselves and lost in dance. It was as close to a religious experience as a heathen like myself can ever hope for.
Should they ever tour again I will see them again, regardless of all factors. They are not to be missed.
It is really a fantasy dream to suddenly hear that Daft Punk is back but i know that cant happen.
I really am envious of the people who could enjoy the concerts in their most awesome times, i could not afford that privilege.
So i appreciate the fans that can really share their powerfull experience.
