Born to a guitar teaching father, the Paducah, Kentucky-native Steven Curtis Chapman, grew up jamming and singing with his dad before enrolling at Georgetown College in Kentucky. It wasn’t long however before Chapman dropped out to pursue a music career, moved to Nashiville, Tennessee, and worked on a music show at Opryland USA. Having honed his skills as a songwriter during this time Chapman subsequently penned the song “Built to Last”, which was later recorded by the popular gospel group The Imperials. The success of which led to Chapman signing with Sparrow Records, and writing songs for the likes of Sandi Patty, Billy Dean, Glen Campbell, and Roger Whittaker.
In 1997 Chapman released his debut album “First Hand”, the lead single of which “Weak Days” charted at No. Two on the contemporary Christian singles chart. A year later the follow-up “Real Life Conversations” spawned four more hits including the No. One “His Eyes”, which went on to win the Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year award from the Gospel Music Association. This was however the beginning of an illustrious and award winning career for Chapman that would see the singer-songwriter win five Grammy awards, 58 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, including seven “Artist of the Year” awards. In 1990 Chapman released his third album “More to This Life”, spawning four No. One hits, succeeded by the Grammy-winning “For the Sake of the Call” in 1990.
With the purchase of Sparrow Records by EMI/Liberty, there was a push for Chapman to appeal to a broader audience, and his subsequent Gold-certified album “The Great Adventure” was representative of this. “Heaven in the Real World” was issued in 1994, followed by “Signs of Life” in 1996, “Speechless” in 1999, “Declaration” in 2001, and “All Abut Love” in 2003. After also releasing a string of Christmas albums and contributing the songs “All About Love”, “Dive”, and “Live Out Loud” to the Christian video game “Dance Praise”, Chapman toured large parts of Asia including a 2007 show for the U.S. troops in South Korea.
Also in 2007 the singer-songwriter released his twelfth studio album “This Moment”, which produced the hits “Cindarella” and “Yours”. A year later, after having his name added to the Nashville Walk of Fame, the songwriter released “Beauty Will Rise”, followed by “re:creation”, a tribute to Chapman’s daughter who had unexpectedly died. “Deep Roots” followed in 2013, along with the full-length “The Glorious Unfolding”, which peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard 200.

Steven Curtis Chapman is an extremely talented contemporary Christian music artist, having won five Grammys and a countless number of Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. But he is not just a musician, he is multi-talented with acting, producing and writing under his belt as well; in addition to all of that, he is also a big advocate for adoption.
Despite all of his major success, he is very humble and down to earth. During his shows he shows a clear passion for his love of making music. He is also very good about addressing the crowd, thanking them for their love and support. Because of his advocacy for adoption he also says a piece about the issue and how beneficial it is to different people. The most important part about his shows though, is his music. There is a reason that he has been so recognized, and when you see him live there is no question as to the validity of his popularity. No matter if you are Christian or not, he has a way of drawing in a crowd to his music. The love that he is trying to give comes through the music and passes through every single person in the venue.
Loved seeing this wonderful man in concert again. He is the real deal and the world is blessed by the way he lives and shares his testimony. We lost our 6 1/2 year old daughter adopted from China at 22 months old and Stevens Music, especially following their own loss, has comforted our family immensely as we listen to it non stop as we continue to grieve. My only request is that he sing more of his more recent music. Everything he sang at this concert was pretty old and I was so hoping to at least hear “See you in a little while”. My daughter, who like Stevey Joy, also lost her “twin”, and she listens to that song on repeat every single night since our little Ivy Joys death. I hated having to tell her he didn’t sing it when I got home from the concert.
Thank you Steven for a lovely evening

He was amazing... Would of liked more music in full.. I get the purpose but all the same disappointed in that. No need for break but would of preferred more music.
Sound system seemed off at times, not good to hear... sitting to the right of stage.
The lack of letting people in who had General Admission and not making it clear we GA people could sit where there was not a name and thought the envelopes were reserved seating and they were not.. the unorganized wait of ppl in GA line waiting to get in.. time was too long between VIP: and GA to get in.
No idea a food truck was to be there, we ate on way in and good thing because only 1 truck too many waiting..
I totally preferred seeing him at Comerica, which is where I last saw him.
The Steven Curtis Chapman solo concert in Destin FL was a huge blessing for me and my parents. It was the first Christian concert they have ever attended outside of their church services. We were touched with Steven's stories and the parallel experiences his family and my family have shared. The best part of the concert was the song he sang about adoption, accompanying himself on the piano. (p.s. He should play more songs on the piano...you could really understand the words better and he is quite skilled on the piano.) I particularly enjoyed the "request session" he did at the end of the concert so we could hear a lot of the songs SCC is known for over the years.
I really enjoyed the Christmas Show that Stephen Curtis Chapman did. His daughter- in -law Jillian Edwards sang like an Angel she has a great voice. Stephen is so down to Earth and kind and treats the audience like family. His group of Musicians sounded great too. He played the acoustic guitar so very well. If I could suggest one thing it would be that he and his Best Friend not talk so long about sponsoring the children over the World. A short message and booth to go to after show would be best to do. My opinion. I care about the children but feel too much time was spent on that and we came to Christmas Show to see him perform Sincerely, Cassandra
SCC is a music legend. His music and lyrics stand the test of time. He loves to tell stores to the audience and makes you feel like part of the family. He had fun mixing some classic SCC dings and Christmas lyrics. The night also included, Plumb. She has great songs and a beautiful voice. We Are Messengers had great songs and energy. The night started with Marc Martel. Great voice and personality. The event was a great tribute to the birth of Jesus Christ.
Loved the show. Very classy and well done. Steven's voice is as good as it was years ago. He is an excellent entertainer. The accident of his daughter still haunts him, and the sadness shows through. I sponsored a child in her memory. Some good has to come out of the evil in this world. .... May God continue to Bless this family for many years by easing the burden they bear, as Steven's music is a blessing to us.
Enjoyed the songs he sang and played. Enjoyed him telling his story although it took a lot of time. Was approximately two hours before the first break. He spoke quite a bit about his work with adoption. That is wonderful but I didn't come to be recruited into that program.
Since the first half was so long we went ahead and went home.
Thanks.
We were amazed at his heartfelt delivery for a an outstanding musical experience. He not entertained us with incredible music, but was able to give an important message about faith during the holiday season.
An Amazing Show! Steven has the rare ability to make you feel like family in the first few of the concert! In person I felt like we sharing a cup of coffee and planning our next fishing trip!
