Man Or Astroman turned out to be man and astro women... A delightful surprise, I must admit, especially since one of the ripping guitar leads was an astro woman. Another cosmic chick was up there with their famous Theramin - a space-age sounding trademark instrument they deploy along with their Cosmo-surf guitar sound. The astro men and women straight killed it! They delivered the high voltage guitar fueled drum backed moon voyage I hoped for. The Roxy was cool, a small enough place to have the feeling of intimacy I love at shows. The only drawback? The crowd came decked in Hawaiian shirts with rolled up sleeves. This would have been just peachy, but for the obvious fact that none of them seems like they sported that style in "real life." I was glad I chose to wear my purple Easy E "express yourself" tank and gold flecked peddle-pushers... Never like to be one of the here... Especially a faux-herd in their Tuesday's finest. Man or Astroman was well beyond worth the $15 per ticket.
I'll start by saying that I've been seeing Man...or ASTRO-Man? for 19 years. They've never disappointed, but this show was absolutely the best since their initial return tour back in 2010. Still playing the classics with tons of energy and unpredicatability, still integrating new material semalessly as well! I wish I had gotten tickets to every single show that I could conceivably get myself to this week as I had done back in 2010... No spoilers, but not to be missed!!!
They were awesomely energized and coordinated! The highlights include some otherworldly theramin playing and when the drummer threw out his drumsticks into the audience to get their participation. A really really great concert, with excellent lights and vibes. They even wore themed outfits! Surf rock is some of the best live music, I highly recommend these guys!
