Might upset a few people with this as I can imagine that in the main MW has a slavishly loyal fan base. For my part I stumbled across them, liked their new album so bought it and then saw that they were touring. Result. First thing I noted at the gig was that the aforementioned fan base seems to be predominantly older generation. Slightly hypocrital to say that when I'm 54, but most of the guys there were 54, at least. That's a bit odd when the band is pretty young, although it's probably because they model themselves on the hard rock bands of the 80s to which their audience can relate. Anyway, support acts weren't great really, Rocket Dolls have a great name but need a better singer. Bootyard Bandits were a sort of country rock outfit but English so a bit odd but they definitely got the crowd going so fair play to them. Massive Wagons themselves? Plenty of energy and a good front man who looks like a cross between Lemmy and Bill Bailey and talks like Tommy Cannon on helium. The rest of the band seemed to look like a high school band, which maybe they were once. They need an image make over if they are ever going to outgrow the Academy 3s of this world. They are a likeable bunch who enjoy themselves on stage and have some decent songs which in my opinion is always going to elevate them above the mediocre. Whether they will ever get beyond their loyal fan base and gain a more youthful and mainstream following, I'm not sure. It almost as if they are reliving the past (you don't see many Gibson Flying Vs these days). It's a little old-fashioned.
Brilliant performance, full of energy and was a feast
Of rock n roll classics by this seriously underrated band.
Will be keeping an eye out for future performances.
The joiners venue added to the fantastic evening.
