With a name lifted from a Mahatma Gandhi quote, Being As An Ocean came together in late 2010 with their first demos being posted to their Myspace page by early January of the following year. Initially, lead guitarist Tyler Ross was the sole creative force of the band, writing the entirety of their first record only a couple of months after the band was formed. The band spent the rest of 2011 performing anywhere that would have them and scored a record deal with InVogue records near the end of the year, with “Dear G-d” being released precisely 364 days after their first demos were put online, on the third of January 2012. The album received a huge amount of acclaim from both fans and critics, leading to their first world tour in the summer supporting a number of different hardcore bands.
Unfortunately, that touring schedule was too much for founding members Jacob Prest and Shad Hamawe, who left in 2013. But even by then this was a band with far too much momentum to be stopped that easily, and with two new members joining up the same year, the band are still going on to this day. With a second album released in the form of 2014’s “How We Both Wondrously Perish”, the band remain a tremendously exciting prospect both live and in the studio. For that, Being As An Ocean come highly recommended.

You can tell from the wild crowd at every one of Being As An Ocean’s shows that they’re doing something right. If seeing a room full of people lose their minds, stage diving and singing every single word isn’t an indicator of success then I don’t know what is. Some bands that reach this level look perplexed by the crowd’s reaction. They almost become scared of the pressure that’s on them from these loyal fans and shy away. No such problems with these guys though.
One of the most amazing feats is their ability to be vocally perfect amid the chaos. For a band that relies quite heavily on melody, they always deliver the sung parts confidently and tunefully although often the crowd are so loud singing along it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Frontman Joel Quartuccio offers the mic round to hungry fans who jump at the chance to scream along to their favourite songs elevating the experience a whole notch further for them. The technicality and accessibility of their music shines in a live setting and makes Being As An Ocean an un-missabale live act.
The reaction to relative newcomers of the circuit Being As An Ocean is absolutely mind blowing. The Californian outfit are close to clocking up 250 live shows so far and that is an impressive feat for a band who only began touring three years ago. The fans and the performers all invest in a collective idea that inside the venue they will collectively lose their fucking minds to the sounds of 'Mediocre Shakespeare' and 'Little Richie'.
They rely on nothing more than the towering walls of guitar riffs and the thumping and perforating drum beats to keep them jumping along in time with this rousing quintet. If you are able to hold an entire crowd at this point in your career then clearly you have done something right and it is this level of interaction that makes the future seem all the more exciting. By the finale of 'This Loneliness Won't Be the Death of Me' you would be forgiven in thinking this was a two decade old anthem with the force and intent the crowd sings back the chorus in time with lead singer Joel Quartuccio.
Ive seen them twice this year, and I can say they are one of the greatest bands to see. The reason I say this isn't cause of their stage presence nor their musical ability. What makes their shows special is the interaction. They truly love their fans and after both shows I have had the opportunity to talk to the band and interact with them. In a time in music where bands almost seem to big or popular to talk to their fans, its nice to see they still make the time. Now the music was still amazing and these guys know how to put on a show. Its extremely fun when joel jumps into the middle of the crowd and just sings and interacts with the fans. Of course everyone knows the lyrics and everyone sings in unison. I love this band and never disappointed to see them. I highly recommend seeing them.
Being As An Ocean has always touched me in a way that no other band has. Their lyrics are always help me God always places them in front of me when im struggling to find purpose or strength in life. They have a song for you too. Check out the lyrics for "It's Really Not As Complicated As You're Making It Out To Be" its reassuring that in the midst of darkness and death there IS light and there IS life. I am going to their concert and I am going to bring as many people as I can. If youre reading this i hope and pray that God touches you in some way, through this band or not. Hope to see you at Soundstage on March 24th!

This band has been my favourite band for a long time now and to see them live was a dream come true it was the best night of my life seem them and Casey and Capsize and Burning Down Alaska all amazing bands I am so so glad i got the chance to see them live.
First time seeing BAAO live and it was absolutely captivating. Joel singing with the crowd and crowd surfing really brings the whole show together. They are definitely a must see if you like lyrical post-hardcore with spoken word intertwined.
Mind blowing show! I saw BAAO for the first time, I couldn’t have ever imagined a show can send you so many emotions, make you live to the fullest every moment of it and make you go through so many emotional stages.
This konzert was one of the most emotional and beautiful experiences I've ever made in my entire life. Even if the sound of the clean vocals weren't that good. Pretty much the best performance ever
Being As An Ocean was just emotional for me, those guys change my life, change the way i see my life, it was just amazing to see one of my favourite bands live, they were absolutely amazing!!
