The rapper and musician is best known for his hit single 'Because I Got High' which was released in 2001. He showed signs of musical interests when he sold his first tape whilst in the eighth grade featuring a rap about a teacher who got Foreman removed from the school for sagging his pants.
In 1998, Afroman released his first full length album 'My Fro-losophy', he later relocated to Mississippi where he met drummer Jody Stallone, Bass player Darrell Havard and future producer Tim Ramenofsky. The latter produced his second record 'Because I Got High', it's main promotional methods were touring and the file sharing site Napster. The title track was later played on The Howard Stern Show.
The song went on to become a worldwide hit in late 2001, it was featured in several high profile films including The Perfect Score, Disturbia and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, to add to the accolades the single went on to earn Afroman a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002. Leading on from this, the rapper went on the join the line up of Cypress Hill's 'Smoke Out' festival. He went on to sign a six album deal with Universal who released a compilation record titled 'The Good Times' which included picks from the rapper's first two LPs and some new material.
He never managed to achieve the success of that release commercially yet he continued to consistently release full length albums along with other material that surfaced online. In 2014 he remixed 'Because I Got High' to support the efforts to legalise marijuana in the US.

Afroman a.k.a Joseph Edgar Foreman could be described as an acquired taste. Many have often questioned his artistic credibility and whether he is an integral performer or not, one thing he does know how to do is put on a show. Having worked the live circuit for years, the rapper is a real showman and never fails to build rapport even with the most disinterested or hostile crowds. This is partly down to his charm and quick wit that can make a 100 strong crowd burst into simultaneous laughter.
Many know Afroman for his one breakout single which ended up being an international hit, 'Because I Got High'. However away from this he has an impossible amount of albums and tonight he is very much intent on proving to the audience he is far more than a one trick pony as he performs complex verses during 'Palmdale' whilst he encourages the crowd to sway along during the sunny 'Let's All Get Drunk'.
When he does break out the mega-hit, the crowd turns into a supporting choir and sings along at deafening volume 'BECAUSE I GOT HIGH, BECAUSE I GOT HIGH, BECAUSE I GOT HIGH'. He thanks them with a huge smile on his face, performs a quick, flawless rendition of 'Crazy Rap' and leaves the stage having proved his point.
My friend told me he had tickets to see Afroman in concert and asked if I wanted to join. I was only familiar with one of his songs, but I decided to go to the concert anyway and had node idea what to expect.
I wasn't sure if it would be like a Weird Al concert, or if Afroman would have some serious songs. We arrived at the show early and the venue was standing room only. My friend and I ended up getting a spot right in the front and there were a few hundred people inside. The air conditioning wasn't working, so it was very hot and some of the [male] crowd ended up taking their t-shirts off. By the time Afroman took the stage, it was close to 90 degrees. He made a few jokes, for example, he said he usually heats things up. To make us feel better, he said he will try to cool us down instead. That got a big laugh from the audience. He then started to perform "Because I got High." He changed the lyrics slightly to be more relevant. Everyone sang and laughed along. It was the best part of the concert. This was surprisingly one of the best shows I have seen all year. Afroman is not a one trick pony. He puts on a great show.
This was the worst concert I have ever attended! Show started at 6:30 with local artists and a group from florida (nothing even remotely similar to Afromans music). After 2.5 hours of that finally the “opening” bands came out to play. At 9:30 the second “opening” performer said they had six or seven more songs to perform before Afroman was going to come out (mind you after every person they made it seem like he was going to be next) after hearing that my bf and I decided that the show was a waste of our time and money. Wish they would have just stated what time afroman was going to take the stage and I would have just showed up then instead of wasting my time:(
This has to be one of, if not the, worst concerts I have ever been in attendance. The venue is a dingy little dive bar - that was the best aspect. The performance started 30 minutes late with the opening act. He was a local guy who spit some demo lyrics for about 15 minutes. After a half hour of nothing a second local guy performed (he was quite decent). The main act, Afroman, had still not appeared at midnight - an hour and a half after the second performer - so I just left because the staff didn't even know when he was going to arrive. Totally disjointed and unprofessional. I will never see Afroman again if that is how the audience is treated.
I bartender his event and it was amazing! Great crowd! They had some good opening acts, and Afroman was so good I loved every second of it! Sounded on point and didn’t miss a beat. He danced and got the crowd super hyped up. I would definitely loved to see one of his shows again. I even got the pleasure of meeting him after and he was so nice!
Omg Afroman was absolutely amazing. Thanks you Jub Jubs for separating the youngsters from the senior citizens, we much appreciate it. Great show it was my husband and friends first time at a concert. This was a priceless concert.
Thr show you needed to be 21 and over
With valid Id,I'm underage so I couldn't attend it and the venue was a little bit far but I could've made if I was allowed in but I'm sure the show was really dope
