Prior to being an EDM producer, Emery played guitar in a punk band in the mid-nineties. He is also trained in classical piano and has a degree in Politics – talk about multi-talented! He has a distinctive production style, described as a fusion of trance, house and progressive and is generally labelled as a trouse DJ.
In 2002, Emery’s debut vinyl release - a white label remix of “Nervous Breakdown” by The Shrinks - brought him is first taste of fame when it was aired on BBC Radio 1. However, it is his third release under the name GTR called “Mistral” that launched his career. The track was debuted live at the Nature One Festival in 2002, and received support from DJ pioneers Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten. EDM magazines Mixmag, Muzik and DJ magazines also gave it rave reviews. Emery appeared in DJ Magazine’s top 100 poll consecutively from 2006-2013, peaking at number seven in 2010.
Emery owns record label Garuda, through which he has released all of his records since 2009. It is named after a bird-like creature from Hindu and Buddhist mythology, which Emery came across during his travels in Indonesia. Prior to this, Emery owned Five AM, through which his top hits “Mistral”, “This is That” and “More Than Anything” were released. Garuda has also released records by Tritonal and M.I.K.E.

Electronic house is such a popular genre of music for people to be creating at the moment, that it’s incredibly hard to be at the top of your game. Gareth Emery, who has been climbing up and up in the industry for the last 12 years, is now sat comfortably ranking at number 7 in DJ Magazine’s top 100 poll. When someone’s rated so highly and consistently, you know that they’re going to put on a good show, so I was incredibly excited to see Emery live.
The auditorium was vast, and before he came on stage, the incredible set lit up, and the strobes began panning across the room. There was some hype music to get everyone in the spirit, and then Emery ran on stage to his booth. He was stood up and back lit and began clapping to get everyone in the vibe of the track, which was cool. He started by playing Ying Yang which has several builds and drops, so it got everyone dancing right away. His passion and enthusiasm behind the decks was evident, even from a way back, and he was so into his mixes, which I think enabled everyone to enjoy the music even more. He played tracks off his albums, and also did some new mixes which was really cool. The tracks that everyone knows were the best because the audience seemed united in their appreciation for Emery and his talent.
Southampton DJ and producer Gareth Emery is an internationally recognised musician who has a decade of experience behind the decks. Entertaining thousands at a time, this confident and skilled mixing artist is the most at home behind a set of decks and has no issue facing off against a large audience. Playing some of the globe's most celebrated events including Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival, the man does not struggle in the festival dynamic as he beckons revellers from across the site to his trance heavy live shows.
His intelligent mixes flit between deep trance and big room house beats keep the audience swaying from the permeating and hedonistic to the ethereal and anthemic. It is a complexing show yet it is within this heady merger lies the genius of Gareth's performance style. He has remixed for an equally perplexing array of people so the likes of Jose Gonzalez and Labrinth are included in tonight's show. It is a testament to Gareth as an artist that such a variety of performers want to work with him and it is through this global reach that he has attracted such large fan numbers to his performance.
It seems many EDM artists these days are becoming popular because they can produce a great track but when it comes to performing, they just can't pull it off (or Vica Versa). Gareth Emery is NOT one of those Artists. He is a very talented musician and it shows in his production styles and at his performances. He clearly knows how to produce with a keen ear for writing a great catchy melody, structuring it with plenty of harmonies all combined with a high energy beat creating a track that's hard to forget. When playing live he definitely knows how to play to the crowd, keeping it fresh by mixing plenty of classics along with the newer tracks and picking new tracks to play by other artist's as well or even tracks of his own but that are remixed. The music is well thought out and the playlist is always changing which keeps it interesting throughout the whole performance. I thoroughly enjoy seeing Gareth Emery and always look forward to attending his next performance near me.

It was beautiful. After 2 years of seeing him and missing out on every event in my area that I could've seen him at, this show was definitely the way to go. He brought a little bit of everything and I had so much fun. Wish I could relive this night.

Gareth Emery open to close was such a blast!! He kept the floor moving all night, and let the good vibes roll through! Simply a master! Thanks for a great night Gareth!!!
It was a good show, but wish Gareth was on decks for longer. He needs to do another open to close like he did a few years back. That was amazing. Overall a good night. :)
Will always be worth every cent paid. This venue wasn't that good but he still found a way to put on a show. It is just hands down life changing.
