Pianist and vocalist A.J. Jackson met classically trained guitarist Aaron Sharpe when the pair both studied film at Chapman University in Orange, California. It wasn’t long before the duo enlisted the help of nearby sushi chef Dak Lerdamornpong on bass and drummer Greg Erwin who was attending another college nearby.
Saint Motel released their debut EP “ForPlay” in 2009, utilising their film knowledge the EP had strong visual themes and was accompanied by a video for each of the EP’s six tracks. The songs were catchy, suave and dipped in nostalgia for the 80s and perfectly suited for energetic live shows of which the band did plenty.
The band’s extensive live performances honed their skills and experience and allowed for the released of their much celebrated debut album “Voyeur” in 2012. The album was received well by both critical reviewers including the Washington Post and Daytrotter and much of the online community especially on the website Hype Machine. Due to this response the band have been able to tour with the likes of “Band of Skulls, Imagine Dragons, Arctic Monkeys and Hockey.
Saint Motel have continued their trend of strong visual themes in their music and have subsequently crafted shows to explore the visual realm further with shows including The Kaleidoscopic Mind Explosion in 3D, Future Fathers Day, the Black & White Show and Valentine’s Zombie Prom.
In 2014 the band released their second EP “My Type” through Parlophone Records. The EP which has become hugely popular in Italy features the well-known and enviably groovy single of the same name, which has been used as the soundtrack for UK commercials and EA Sport’s FIFA 15.

Saint Motel, the indie rock band hailing from L.A, produce an incredible cross genre of music from pop, to progressive indie, and rock. All of the instrumentalists in the band are exceptionally talented, and watching them live really demonstrates how they’re able to manipulate they’re vocals and their instruments for the style they’re playing.
The show opened with A/J Jackson shouting out to the audience from back stage ‘is everybody ready, let’s made some noise’, before the house lights went down and their overture music began. They ran onto the stage to a huge applause before Aaron Sharp broke into an epic guitar solo, whilst A/J introduced the band over the top.
They played a really great selection of tracks, even going right back to their EP ForPlay, and journeying right the way through to their brand new EP, My Type. Along the way they took requests from us in the audience, and played several tracks from their album, Voyeur. When they played Ace in The Hole, they taught us all the chorus and got us to sing along, which was a lot of fun, and a great experience for a live show.
I may not be a concert junkie, but this has to be the best concert I’ve ever attended. The audience was great and I can’t even explain how perfect the actual music sounded. For example, many bands when preforming live sound different from their published albums (which is a given since it’s live) but not Saint Motel. In my opinion they might have sounded even better. The people who showed up were as relaxed and as kind as I’ve ever met at a concert. AJ’s interactivity with the audience was amazing and Dak’s bass work gave me life. All in all it was an ASTOUNDING experience and I cant wait for their next tour!
What a great concert! First off, the opening band, Hippo Campus, was so amazing and set the right tune for the concert--definitely planning to see them again as well! Since it was the night before their album came out, it was really fun to celebrate with them... I loved every single new song they played from the album. They really used everything to their advantage at the venue and got everyone dancing. They were so amazing live, it practically sounded like their studio songs. Can't wait to see them again!
Saint Motel was one of the best concerts i've been too.
The audience was entertained from start to finish, also the theatrics added a great element to the show.
The music was fabulous, i took a couple friends whom had never heard of Saint Motel & they loved the show.
A highlight for me was having a dance with A/J Jackson when he came up to the balcony during the show.
Simply electrifying. Ogden theatre is not huge but it was perfect for Saint Motel, they filled up the room with their energizing performance, whether people knew the songs or not everyone was dancing. They were so energetic and interactive, even pulling off some tricks to pop up in the crowd. Great show, I will be seeing them for a third time next March.
They put on a great show! I loved how the lead singer AJ went into the crowd so many times and how the whole band interacted with the audience. Their setup was really cool too, I loved the TV on the front of the stage. But of course the music was the best part. This was my second time seeing them and I hope it's not the last!
Quality show. One of the best presentations I've seen in a concert, lots of audience engagement. Stayed very high energy throughout the show. He crowd-surfed in a raft painted like a spaceship. I would definitely encourage you to go to this concert even if you aren't familiar with their music. It will be worth your money.
I went to the concert last night and it was my first time at the crystal ballroom. The opening bands were actually really good. Saint motel was insane. They sounded so amazing and they were so nice. The energy in the show was incredible and crazy. I definetly want to see them live again. Best concert I've ever been too.
One of the best shows I've ever been to, if not the best! Great opener (Kolars) and the crowd was very into it. Saint Motel had an amazing set list and maintained so much energy throughout the whole show. They engaged the audience incredibly well and sounded amazing. Cannot recommend highly enough!
Go. See. Saint Motel. They put on such a great show. The theme of the evening was Late Night, so they had cameras on stage, an applause box, and even commercials. The energy was awesome, and the lead singer even made a few appearances out in the crowd. Awesome band, awesome show. Highly recommend.
