Having been classically trained in a range of musical disciplines as a child – choral singing, violin, piano and guitar in particular – it always looked as if Zaz was set for a bright musical future, and so it would eventually prove when she won a scholarship to a modern music school in Bordeaux, which she used as the platform from which to launch her career. Influenced, in her early years, by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Enrico Macias and Bobby McFerrin – a diverse bunch, then – she began to sing in jazz groups across both her native France and their nearby Basque Country, which is what, in retrospect, came to inform her sound. Her music is a blend of pop, jazz and soul, but there’s something unmistakeably French about it too, even if many of the artists from which she’s known to have taken her cues are from the English-speaking world.
Her self-titled debut record, released in 2010, was a massive hit across Europe, going to the top of the charts in a slew of countries and achieving multi-platinum sales certifications in Belgium, Germany, Poland and Switzerland, as well as platinum discs in Austria and Russia. In her homeland, meanwhile, the record achieved the rare feat of going Diamond – more than 500,000 copies shifted.

Zaz is an extraordinary female French singer, and her live performance does not disappoint. Her music is at once bluesy and French, and also simultaneously infectious. Attending a live concert of Zaz, even as someone who doesn't remember much of the French language from their years studying it in high school, was a wonderful experience for me, just to see the sheer joy onstage.
Zaz, with her dark hair and expressive eyes was dressed unassumingly in jeans and a plaid top, someone who could easily blend in on the city streets, save for her infectious joy and beautiful, melodious voice. Zaz wriggled and danced and called out to the audience regardless of the song she was performing, her voice expressive in its tonal capabilities and immense versatility. During the charismatic "Je Veux" and "Couer Volant", the ability of her delicate voice is particularly evident.
The stage was wide enough to accomodate the band's variety of instruments while still providing enough space to ensure that Zaz was the focus. Multicolored lights backlit her as she sang and performed, but, once again, never upstaged her as the focus was certainly Zaz herself, her lyrics, and her singing.
The audience was there to engage with Zaz and vice versa, as the audience almost instantaneously began snapping along with the band when they began snapping as an intro to one of her songs. Overall, the verve exuding from Zaz as she performed was revitilazing and something truly special to witness onstage.
I watched Zaz at the Royal Albert Hall on the 31st March 2022 and she was INCREDIBLE! I knew it was going to be good but my god I am still speechless at how much I loved it. Everything about her is perfect and you can truly see how much she loves it and how genuinely giddy and excited being on stage makes her. She has wonderful stage presence that keeps the audience involved like in 'laissez-moi' where she got the audience to sing the 'ah ah' parts and singing the chorus in 'je veux' as well as parts of others and getting the audience to stand up for songs that were suited to having a dance along to! Her voice is just phenomenal and her performances are like no other and with a wide range of different songs you really can't go wrong!! She just feels so genuine, down-to-earth and authentic when you watch her live as she is so naturally talented and powerful in her voice and you can tell how at home she feels on stage. Nothing more perfect or amazing than watching Zaz perform live... If you like her now I can tell you that you will love her so much more after hearing her live and will be wanting to go to way more performances!
Many would argue that French is the most romantic language in existence, and although the Italians are often known for passion, singer/songwriter Zaz seems to be on a one woman quest to prove the French also deserve this title. Real-name Isabelle Geffroy merges genres including jazz, soul and acoustic into a succinct sound that really allow her well trained vocal chords to shine.
Having only released her first album in 2010, she has quickly become a household name all over Europe and has an extensive following of devoted fans. The way in which she delivers her heartfelt music can really silence an entire room as they watch on in amazement to this demonstration of vocal ability. There is a real passion in the way she performs the likes of 'Je Veux' which makes you believe the lyrics are incredibly personal to the star and feel grateful for her to share on such a large scale. One final swan song in the form of 'Laissez-moi' proves Zaz's exceptional talent and effortless stage presence.
Our decision to see Zaz was tipped by two things, first the fabulous tracks on her latest album Paris (2014), which the promo images seem to be focussing on and second the amazing location in Poble Espanyol, Barcelona.
Interestingly, the majority of the songs were drawn from her albums Zaz (2010) and Recto Verso (2013); Comme Ci, Comme Ça and On Ira being two examples. In addition
A Paris and Champs Elysées coming from the latest album.
The whole two hours were all about Zaz and her incredible musicians who, on her insistence, took as much of a role centre stage as she did. The quality of vocals, musicianship, energy and audience involvement were amazing; for such a large audience, the atmosphere was intimate, good humoured and personal.
We aim to catch her when she returns to the U.K. as it would be like missing a much loved friend who'd called whilst out if we didn't.
Go see, she really is trop belle.
This is the second time I see ZAZ live in concert, last time was with an audience of about 300 people in a small Hall in London, this time she performed in front of about 4thousand people and she is in any of both cases soooo great! The quality of her shows are improving, more musicians, more songs, always her amazing voice and beside she gives all her energy in each show. What I like the most is that she shows to be thankful and humble to her audience, I really like her, not only as an artist but as a person, thumbs up for Zaz!

I like Zaz music. I love her energy on stage.
but it feels a little weird when you see her in concert because her music and her performance don't really work all that well together - her music is just not the kind of thing you do high kicks to or get the audience to sing along with or even roar.
it was a good show but felt a little awkward.
also helps if you know French (i know un peu ;)
WOW! Amazing! I have been waiting for ZAZ to come here for the last three years and I was not disappointed; it was even better than I expected.
I have found that a lot of artists often do a lot of stuff from their newest albums, but not ZAZ; she performed a lot of the old classic and I was just elated. She was super entertaining and kept the audience involved.
