Pool and Boer were childhood friends who grew up in Groningen, Netherlands. They met at school when they were 15 years old and bonded over a shared love of techno and progressive house acts such as Swedish House Mafia and Eric Prydz. They both fostered ideas of starting a music career of their own and over the years their lofty dreams began peeling away into a tangible reality.
Pool and Boer did not have easy access to many musical halls and nightclubs as some of the most respected venues were located hours away in Amsterdam; however, this did not deter them from finding inspiration elsewhere and certainly did not cap their creative charge. The aspiring musicians developed a small makeshift studio in their rural town and worked away at crafting intricate dynamic structures and effervescent melodic outlines.
In 2012 it was time to test their compositions out on an audience. Vicetone self-released two singles for free: “Twenty” and “Hope (feat. Barack Obama)”.These releases caught on rather quickly and gained them a record contract with Monstercat. At the the end of that year they put out their 1st “big” commercial single “Harmony”. This track was a subtle jungle/d’n’b jam that harbored oozing synth pulses, vaporous vocal echoes and highly compressed drumbeats that rose in intensity. It was a good single to close out the year and to show the electronic music circuit their refined production techniques.
With several successful singles under their belt the duo earned enough credibility to recruit guest vocalists. Their leading 2013 single “Heartbeat” featured the vocal work of Collin McLoughlin and has since become one of their biggest hits if not their all time most popular. Only more collaborations followed. Their debut track for Trice Recordings “Stars” used the talent of Jonny Rose while their free single “Beast” put the American alternative band Nico Vega in the forefront of the mix.
Vicetone continued to issue a multitude of singles throughout the remainder of 2013 well on into 2015 through labels varying from Spinnin’ Records, Revealed Recordings Protocol Recordings etc...
They have also put in a great deal of effort into their remix work and touring, touching up works by artists such as Linkin Park, Steve Akoi, Adele, and Maroon 5 and playing high profile gigs at festivals such as Tomorrow World and Ultra Music Festival.
