Julian Lage came to Toronto in support of his latest effort "Love Hurts" which also served as the opening number that has remained in constant motion in my mind due to his addictively appealing trio interplay.
As expected his trio which consisted of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King became a worthwhile evening of great music that would have an appeal well beyond that of the jazz crowd. I could not begin to write a review that serve Julian any justice other than to say this performance is an easy 5 stars!
I attended his Master Class prior to the show. He was engaging and insightful, I really enjoyed it. The show was fantastic. His bandmates are superb musicians and Julian really feels his music which translates to the audience.
It was my first time at The Lodge Room, it's a great venue.
Julian Lage is a musical genius, and his work on this project reinforces his virtuosity in almost every category of music -- contemporary classical, blues, jazz, and now bluegrass. Is there anything he can't play, with intelligence, conviction and innovation? Nope.
Julian had some great tips in his masterclass for aspiring players. The show was simply incredible! The Trio was absolutely on fire!!It reminded me of the stage chemistry I've seen at Aristocrat's shows. Top-notch playing by musicians who are having real fun.
Great musicianship from both performers. They worked seamlessly together to create cascading lines of acoustic heaven. Julian’s command of the instrument is just over the top with inventiveness and dynamic nuance. Simply fabulous
My boyfriend and I drove from Portugal to Spain to attend the concert...it was fantastic! But we just got sad for not listening Nocturne.
Anyway I was amazed and could not stop smiling over a concert full of love and emotion!
We witnessed a virtuoso performance at the Raven Theater in Healdsburg on Feb 18. What a extraordinarily talented but humble performer. Will surely see him when he comes to town in the future. Tight trio with good chemistry.
Fantastic concert in a really nice and comfortable location as well.
The support band was really cool and talented but when Julian arrived on stage and started to play the first chords the difference was immense!
Amazing musician and his bandmates are excellent. They play with passion. It was really fun to watch them improvise, it was clear that they really feel the music. We would see them again in a heartbeat.
