Umberto Tozzi’s getting on a bit now. He’s not exactly at the Steven Tyler level of silicone-reptilian old, in fact he’s aged quite naturally and gracefully. He actually looks better in old age. There are people you see who look like they are stuck in the wrong age bracket, like a brutish toddler who looks like a bricklayer from Blackpool, or a spindly legal clerk who should be 10.
Steven Tyler was once a very good looking man. Now, unfortunately, he looks like Jocelyn Wildenstein. By comparison, if you dig up an old photo of Umberto Tozzi, he bears an absolutely gob-smacking resemblance to Louise Fletcher, the actress perhaps better known as Nurse Mildred Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It’s truly remarkable, but not necessary the desired comparison for a suave Italian pop idol.
In his latest, older, more refined form, Tozzi has come into his element. A maestro of the catchy electronic Italo-pop song, he barrages the gooey eyed fans with his classics, Gloria and Ti Amo. He is living proof that charisma is ageless.
