Galantis is the dance music project of Christian Karlsson (aka Bloodshy). RIAA gold-certified debut album Pharmacy reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance album chart on the strength of platinum-certified single “Peanut Butter Jelly” and 3x platinum certified smash “Runaway (U & I)” – the latter of which earned a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Dance Recording” – while 2017’s sophomore album The Aviary (featuring 2x platinum-certified single “No Money”) saw a top 10 debut in 23 countries. The third Galantis album, 2020’s Church, featured the chart-topping gold-certified single “Faith” with country music icon Dolly Parton featuring Mr. Probz, which saw a #1 debut on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Chart before quickly reaching #1 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart where it remained for 5 weeks. Meanwhile, gold-certified collaborative single “Heartbreak Anthem” with David Guetta & Little Mix proved a global sensation, spending 10 weeks on the Billboard Global 200 chart and 13 consecutive weeks in the top 10 on the UK Official Chart. Latest album, Rx, is Karlsson’s most deeply personal creation to date – featuring pop banger “Lighter” with Guetta and 5 Seconds of Summer which landed No.1 on the US Dance Radio chart. Galantis has received over 7.3 billion cumulative worldwide streams and over 1.9 billion video views to date.
The Swedish electronic dance music group, Galantis blew me away before they even came out on stage. The lights went out, and the stage filled with smoke and crazy lights, before the duo came on stage with their arms in the air. Witnessing some of their first ever live performances was something really incredible, ad their electric energy was incredibly contagious and they had everyone singing along with their samples and dancing to their incredible beats straight away.
Something that I wasn’t expecting that I was pleasantly surprised by, was their live production of music over their pre-recorded mixes. They both had either synths, or electronic drum pads, and were rocking it simultaneously with their DJing throughout the show. It’s always great to see DJs performing music live and showcasing their talent. They were both great at getting the audience going, and had microphone that they were holding out in their samples, such as the track ‘You’, where they got everyone singing along. They played a great selection of tracks, and mixes up their really heavy EDM with tracks with pop samples in them to keep everyone engaged. The show was pretty long, I’d say about 2 hours, and the guys were dancing along, and 100% dedicated to their music from start to finish, they were great performers as well as talented musicians.
