It’s obvious even to a newcomer or trance enthusiast that John O’Callaghan’s talents far exceed that of just an uplifting producer or Trance remix master. He is an artist, producer, DJ and an internationally respected name in the world of Electronic music. He is known for pushing the boundaries of musical genres in ways that have earned him a stellar reputation across the dance music industry. John O’Callaghan always showcases true diversity in his sound, and has emerged as a leader of the trance movement – a path which all of his fans have loyally followed. Being one of the few that helped shape the genre into all it is now, no one can doubt the influence of a man this versatile.
The pair met in Cologne, Germany and after hitting it off they decided to try their hand at making music together. Realising that their combined talents meant musical gold, the pair became Cosmic Gate and began producing fresh tracks and remixing existing music.
Cosmic Gate’s initial successes were in their native Germany where tracks "The Drums", "Mental Atmosphere" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" were all top 100 tracks. The duo quickly began winning increasing numbers of fans and the release of their fourth single, “Exploration of Space” went to number 12 in Germany and entered the UK singles chart at number 29.
Picking up significant buzz from these initial tracks, Cosmic Gate then went on to release “Fire Wire” in 2001. The track stormed the UK singles chart and peaked at number nine.
Cosmic Gate has released six albums, “Rhythm & Drums”, “No More Sleep”, “Earth Mover”, “Sign of the Times”, “Wake Your Mind” and “Start to Feel” between 2001 and 2014, with their initial two albums being their most successful.
The duo is well known throughout Europe and they have placed in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ’s feature multiple times. Fans love them for their remixes as much as their original content and Cosmic Gate is well known for its remixes of artists such as Tiësto, Deadmau5 and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.
John O'Callaghan is a DJ and Irish musician, mainly working on producing electronic dance music. He has collaborated with several ‘Discover’ artists such as Bryan Kearney, Neal Scarborough and Greg Downey and many more. He is best known for his track called 'Big Sky' that he made alongside a vocalist. A lot of his work has been released by a British record label and been promoted by Armada Music. A remix of his song 'Big Sky' was even voted tune of the year by the State of Trance radio show in 2007, which is quite impressive I'd say. He's picked up several British and Irish awards during his career and performed at many events with different vocalists. His live performances include a lot of fireworks, strobe lights and impressive sets; I think it's hard for a DJ just to be on stage alone and to capture the audience’s attention so it’s clear that they need loads of these additional extras. The vibe he creates whilst on stage is electric and gave me an unexpected appreciation for DJ's and what they do, he brings more life to music and although he doesn't appear to do or say much whilst he's on stage, he works hard to create some amazing sounds, which is evident.
Most notably known for hits such as FireWire and Exploration Of Space, Cosmic Gate are a fantastic dance duo. I've been listening to them since Rythm & Drums in 2001, I'm a massive fan and see them every chance I get. Every show I have been too I've been blown away and get more and more excited. These guys are premium DJs in today's day and age and keep it coming. Their latest album, Start to Feel, is simply fantastic as well with songs Yai, Falling Back and Coming Home, being a few of the standouts. These guys don't stop for anything and certainly know how to make a statement amongst today's plethora of DJ's.
Most EDM nowadays is all about the drop and high energy beats with crazy syncopation that I don't care for. The true masters of trance are Cosmic Gate and they keep it coming! Since I first saw them live they've mixed up the set to feature the latest and greatest in the DJ world as well as keeping their classics and throwing some of their newest material in. A solid diverse set list that any true fan, or newbie, will enjoy immensely. Cosmic Gate certainly get around and if you get the chance it's worth far more than the price of admission to a club or event to see these guys alone. Don't miss out!
