Sugalski began playing with music production software whilst studying for a marketing degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder, US, where he found a love for creating his own music digitally. In 2005, he released his debut album, “Diplomatic Immunity,” which showcased a number of 8 and 16-bit electro funk dance floor fillers, gaining a significant amount of support from fans. A video game developer who worked for Microsoft liked the sounds Sugalski was coming up with, hiring him to create a soundtrack for the game.
Sugalski then decided to pursue making music full time, also performing as Ample Mammal, a side project of The Polish Ambassador. As the Polish Ambassador, Sugalski creates upbeat dance music, relying on multi-layered melodies and funky bass. As Ample Mammal, Sugalski aims to create heavily processed drum tracks, taking influence from techno and glitch-filled IDM by the likes of Apex Twin.
Sugalski regularly performs under these two pseudonyms across the US, often performing alongside other electronic musicians. He is known for always wearing a brightly coloured jumpsuit, which he bought from a thrift store for under four dollars. His music travels across many genres, from electro, breakbeat to hip-hop, dub and funk. Performing live, Sugalski develops his tracks differently each time, through using live sound mixing and midi instruments.
Sugalski released “Pushing Through The Pavement,” a full-length record in June 2014. Through his music, he has developed a strong fan following, who are known as the TPA Family, Ambassadorks or simply, ‘The Family.’ He releases his music upon the Jumpsuit Records imprint.
David Sugalski, aka. The Polish Ambassador, despite his name is an electronic dance musician from California. He’s an incredibly talented disk jockey, and in fact began his career DJ-ing when he was back in college, studying marketing. I’ve been aware that he’s been touring for some time now, but when I was finally given the opportunity to see him perform I couldn’t resist, his latest album Pushing Through the Pavement is an absolute favourite of mine.
He opened the show by performing an original mix that I hadn’t heard before, and hyping up the crowd with epic lighting, and by shouting out over the audience for everyone to dance along (which of course we were already doing!). He launched straight into his hip hop electro track Exozoic, which of course had everyone screaming away. He had some incredibly visuals going on behind him, that seemed to energise both The Polish Ambassador, and everyone in the audience.
He played Pushing Through the Pavement almost in its entirety, which was incredible as it’s so new and hadn’t been played live many times before at all. It was a great show, and I’d definitely watch him again.
