What a treat it was to get to see this talented artist perform in Scotland; an event I have been waiting for for a number of years. It was a shame therefore that his gig fell at the end of 5 days of relentless snow and dangerous driving conditions which no doubt affected the number of people at the show. He deserved a far larger audience.
Opening with the first track on his 2017 album Across the Multiverse, Hello Cruel World sets the scene for what's to come. With a chorus like an homage to Paul McCartney's Let Em In it's the first of an album full of singalong worthy songs and tight harmonies.
And how could you not love him? His music is uplifting and fun as is he when on stage. His band are musically tight if stylistically diverse bunch- Dent looking like a trainee accountant, with a surfer keyboardist in a Mike Nesmith hat and a Lorenzo St DuBois lookalike on bass.
He performed tracks mostly from his new album with a handful of his biggest hits and classic tracks, the audience, small as it was clearly lapped it up and were an appreciative bunch. But he deserved so much more. He is a talent and I am so looking forward to see what he comes up with in the future.
