Producer, remixer, label owner, electronic dance music artist. Josh Wink does it all, and for good measure. The highly talented Philly born has been playing rave scenes for over a decade. It is no surprise that his live sets are nothing short of epic, having played the biggest EDM scenes around the world.
As for his staging, he keeps it very simple. It is all about the music that he spins. It is just him, his equipment and the table, and the thousands that flock to his tent while he is set to play. There are no gimmicks, no costumes, no masks or large heads. While up there, he is clearly having a great time partying just like everyone else. The transitions are flawless and he perfectly curates a set that contains all his best originals like “Higher State of Consciousness” and his remixes that include Depeche Mode and Paul Oakenfold. Literally the entire crowd is dancing for the hour long set that he has on average. By the time you leave the set, you are out of breath and completely exhausted, but you’ve also had the best time of your life. You take away a memory that is unique and will always be looked back on.
First time at Stereo Live Dallas. Though kinda out of the way enjoyed the venue, will be back.
The show: Resident DJ Roy Montez was pretty great. Laying down a nice buildup to Matthew Dear. The only criticism that my friends and I had was that he would start a buildup to take us to the next level, and then kinda chickened out. Left us a bit underwhelmed after a buildup fail a few too many times.
Matthew Dear: The real overall winner of the night was Matthew. He laid down a great set with plenty of energy, with a variety of styles, even throwing the Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summer classic " I Feel Love".
Josh Wink: I was obvious that the crowd was there for Josh. The bar emptied out, and the few of us there were on the floor. To make a long story short. There was a lot of just standing around for about 3/4 of the set, with some tracks just let to run on, with no build. He didn't kick it in until the last quarter of the set. But once he did there was no turning back. Just wish he had gotten to it earlier. Super props to the promoter Undergound Theatre for doing the free "PreGame RSVP". So our tix were free. Word.
