London outfit The Meteors were always known as one of the first bands to associate their sound with the rather niche psychobilly genre yet this did successfully describe their music which sat somewhere between punk rock and the more well known rockabilly. They enjoyed commercial success during their heyday in the 80s in the UK and many years later they continue to tour as the demand is still very much there.
They were incredibly proud of the genre psychobilly, even naming an album 'Only The Meteors Are Pure Psychobilly' in the late 80s. The fans were also fiercely loyal, identifying themselves early on as The Wrecking Crew and were known for championing the slogan 'Only The Meteors are Pure Psychobilly' or OTMAPP for short. There are some original members of the crew present this evening who are ready to rock along to the trippy sounds of 'Chainsaw Boogie' and 'Psycho for Your Love'. The band races through a packed set of all the favourites before ending on the high note of 'I Don't Worry About It' with kicking riffs and thumping drums.
Damn, can they still rock after all these years. I haven't been in a pogo ring for some years now, but that was really fun! Hits like "Blue Sunshine", "F*** your world", "Rawhide" and "Get off of my cloud" made sure we were jumpin' and bangin' the entire show. And the venue was great as well, cool to be so close to the stage you can actually how they are into it. I almost went to Leipzig today just to get some more...
OTMAPP.The KOP....Absolute fantastic gig as always ...The originators of Devil rock n roll...P.P Fenech The grandfather of psychobilly..They never let the crowd down...110% pure psychobilly and continue to sell out the venues..
