The Brazilian rock band, Capital Inicial, came into the music scene in the ‘80s at full force and came back even stronger in the early to mid 2000’s. Although their music never necessarily broke into the United States probably due to the language barrier, they are a huge success in Brazil and play large shows to an accepting audience that is hungry for their high-energy punk rock music.
Their music is heavily influenced by classic rock and punk, which can be conveyed by some of the songs they choose to cover such as “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash. Capital Inicial also have the tendency to play some more soft ballads that have strong epic and emotive tones to them. Songs such as “Primeiros Erros” contain the crisp, clean sound of the acoustic guitars, and the jangly riffs of the electric guitar that are layered in chorus and reverb effects. Although Capital Inicial are considered a punk band, they are incredibly accessible, which is understandable due to their huge following. Songs like “Independencia” have strong punk overtones, but is presented in a very catchy, pop like manner.
A Capital Inicial show is very spectacular and is everything a huge rock show should be. Bright, colorful lights flash all over stage to the tempo of the music, large banners of the band are displayed in the background, and a layer of fog covers the stage. The band is highly energetic with the lead singer strutting around the stage and waving the microphone stand in the air like a baton. The stage is designed to have a platform going directly into the audience, which allows the singer to walk right into the audience to make the concert experience more up close and personal.
Capital Inicial is one of those bands that never seems to lose their magical touch after years of music making. They grow with the times and write music that always sounds fresh and new. Their live performance is a unique experience filled with high energy and great music, and is a show that should not be missed.
