Biografia
He was born Nivaldo Batista Lima on 3 September 1989 in Presidente Olegario, Minas Gerais, Brazil; however, once he started his path as a musician he adopted the stage name Gusttavo. Lima moved to Goiânia,Goiás shortly after his birth, spending the majority of his childhood there. He showed interest in music very early on in his youth and by age nine was participating as a choir soloist doing interpretations of classic songs such as “É o Amor".
Drawing inspiration from artists like Gino & Geno, Chitaozinho & Xororo, Bruno & Marrone, and Zeze di Camargo, Lima assimilated a style for himself that was fervent, engaging and catchy, embracing modern trends while simultaneously referencing traditional Brazilian music.
Though Lima has been active in the music industry since 1999 his 1st studio album “Inventor dos amores” did not come out until 2010. The album was a live recording and was released through the label Som Livre. It was also packaged with an accompanying DVD and boasted a total of 15,000 units in sales. Two of the album’s tracks broke into the Brazilian singles charts. The title track, a collaborative effort with Jorge & Mateus, shot to No. 24 on the Billboard Brazil charts and the single “Cor de Ouro” reached No. 21.
Lima’s next release was yet another CD/DVD live album. It was entitled “Gusttavo Lima e voce” and came out on 3 June 2011. It is by far his most successful release to date and is largely responsible for launching him into stardom. He recorded the album in front of approximately 6,000,000 at the festival “Festa Nacional do Milho” in the city Patos de Minas. This release contained a mix of both new and old songs, comprising a total of 23 tracks. The show was so long that the CD had to cut 6 of the 29 original tracks. This release was a hit in Lima’s home country Brazil, entering the albums chart at No.7, and was also a major success internationally, reaching gold status in both France and Poland.
Lima departed for his first international tour in early 2012, playing for an American audience for his first time. He also released his 3rd consecutive live album “Ao vivo em São Paulo” this year. He followed up this release two years later with his studio album “Do Outro Lado da Moeda”.
Avaliações ao vivo
Nivaldo Batista Lima better known by his stage name Gusttavo Lima has had numerous hits in his home country of Brazil and recently reached out further following the international success of 'Balada'. He prides himself on being a live performer, his four studio albums have all been recorded as live releases.
The fans know they are in for one huge performance when they see Gusttavo in person as he is a born showman. Despite being only 25 years of age, it feels as though he has had a lifetime of stage experience as he confidently struts around the stage accompanied by his musicians who create the back bone of the show. His own brand of latin pop is equally upbeat so he has no issue enthusing the crowds with musical crescendos all evening. They are behind him during recognisable choruses and a huge singalong to 'Balada'. He has the time of his life whilst performing and the adoration for his audiences is absolutely clear all evening.
“Balada” is the opening song performed by Gusttavo Lima to this huge festival horde of an audience who have their cameras up in the air, or the hands in the air as they sing along. This performance takes place just as the sun has set. This performance is proof of that phrase “When you smile the whole world smiles with you”, the Brazilian singer smiling from the start to finish in this electric set this evening. His music has quite a Latin pop vibe as I think that is what he calls it. I would say that he definitely has quite a euro pop vibe about his music. The chorus of his song, “Gatinha Assanhada” despite being sung in Portuguese, is infectious as ever and I know it will be stuck in my head for the rest of this week, I will also probably put this on my speakers at home and dance around the house shamelessly.
