Biografia
Pentz grew up in Miami, Florida, US and developed an appreciation for the Miami Bass genre that would later influence much of his writing. He also incorporated the Funk carioca genre into his music, which helped bring Brazilian dance music into the US. He moved to Philadelphia in the late ‘90s and soon began to rise into prominence as a DJ. While in Philadelphia he collaborated with DJ Low Budget with whom he started the side project Hooked on Hollertronix. This collaboration resulted in the mixtape “Never Scared”, which the New York Times would call one of the top 10 albums of 2003.
In the year 2004 Diplo would release his debut album labeled “Florida” that featured a strong sense of hip hop and trip hop beats. During this time he was frequently playing music as a DJ in clubs and parties where he was starting to find success. After his name started to gain buzz around the music industry he built his own recording studio named The Mausoleum. Since then his studio has hosted a wide variety of notable artists ranging from M.I.A., Santigold, Christina Aguilera, and Plastic Little.
Diplo’s music career started to blow up into the mainstream after he met electronic/hip hop artist and former partner M.I.A. with whom he released the mixtape “Piracy Funds Terrorism”. The album would go onto receive critical acclaim from publications like Pitchfork and the New York Times who included the album on the top of the year lists. M.I.A. and Diplo also collaborated on the song “Paper Planes”, which was released on M.I.A.’s second studio album. The song was nominated for a Grammy award and reached No. 4 on the Billboard US Hot 100 chart.
Although Diplo’s catchy dance beats and the innovative approach he has taken on the EDM genre is enough to make his name reputable, his work as a producer is just as admirable in comparison. He has produced music and collaborated with some of the hottest musicians in the business including Kid Cudi, Robyn, Bruno Mars, and Snoop Dog.
Diplo has also established himself through his avid touring schedule that has sent him playing shows across the world and at large festivals. He has toured with many notable musicians such as Steve Aoki and has played many festivals like Ultra as well as the Mad Decent Music Festival that he and his record label created. When Diplo is not touring solo he might be touring with his side project Major Lazer or Jack U, his dubstep side project that he formed with Skrillex. Whatever bit of music Diplo has his hands on seems to turn out golden and there is no doubt that Diplo will consistently surprise audiences with his immense talents as Rolling Stone magazine has labeled Diplo as one of the 40 reasons to be excited about music.

Going to see Diplo perform live is not for the faint of heart. He plays very energetic electronic dance music so his shows are great for anyone looking to expend all of their energy.
The crowds at his shows are always really into what he's doing; you never have to worry about the rest of the crowd just standing around doing nothing. Everybody will be dancing, jumping, and breaking a sweat. Because of this, word has gotten out about Diplo and he's no longer an underground sensation. He continues to play bigger and bigger venues in part because of how word of mouth has spread that his shows are a crazy experience to take part in.
You should also know that Diplo is part of Major Lazer, and their shows are equally crazy. Are you looking for a show that will make you pump your fist and dance? Do you want a show with a bunch of really cool-looking lasers and lights? If so, Diplo may be the artist you're looking for.
Your legs may hurt the day after because of all the dancing but it will be an experience that you're likely to never forget. He's one of the most popular producers in the world right now for a reason.
It is unusual to be part of a crowd where every member of the audience has fully engaged with the performer onstage and is throwing themselves into every track. Diplo achieves this with his danceable electro/EDM. Having worked with a whole selection of celebrated artists, his set lists are unpredictable and exciting as no concert ever feels the same.
Surrounded by moody strobe lights and a criss-cross of beams, the audience are plunged into darkness as Diplo gets to work to create a surrealist dance environment. Having spent more time producing than recording, he often drops dance tracks by his clients such as M.I.A and Robyn which send the audience into frenzy.
His big hit single 'Earthquake', a collaboration with DJ Fresh also receives massive reaction from the crowd as Diplo drops the mega dance track without warning. Accompanied by hype men who encourage the crowd to whip off clothing, throw huge balls into the masses and generally build excitement to fever pitch ready for a finale of 'Heads Will Roll' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
As usual, Diplo put on a great show. If I had any nits to pick, it would be that he needs to put a rider on his performance-contract that the venue needs to do a quick cleanup of the floor before his set starts. It really sucks when you've got a DJ putting on a great set and the floor is so strewn with beer cans, cocktail cups and empty water bottles that every step you take is a slog through trash. And the stickiness that comes with that mess is just freaking miserable. Really puts a damper on the ability to enjoy an otherwise great set.
Diplo was wonderful as always but the important thing about this event was the fact that it gave people without money, the opportunity to experience and enjoy one of the best DJS in the world. It was a very connecting and humbling experience and yes there were people such as myself who have seen DJS perform plenty of times, but for those who rarely get out of the house for Financial reasons this may be one of the few times they get to have an experience like this. Thanks for sending diplo for free.
So the concert was actually was really good, Diplo play some really good jams and overall was awesome, the only problem was the organization of the concert, I know Diplo's agency didn't have to do much in it but gold room's organization was very poor, and at the end where Diplo's fans wanted to make him stay since we had to wait 2 hours extra to get in and even Diplo seemed like he would have liked to stay but they didn't let him, he was excellent, the organization as said before, not so good.
This was my 1st time seeing Diplo live, Im a huge fan and whenever he would come to my city I would always have previous engagements. Unfortunately I didnt see him in my city BUT I got to see him for my bday weekend in Vegas #winning . It was really worth it, he is a great performer! I was front row, a little disappointed he didnt make any eye contact or something but I guess he was focused on his work . It was perfect and I will go see him again. Thanks XS and Diplo for a great night.
SUCH A GOOD TIME!! GREAT music, GREAT crowd. The acoustics were spotty but I found my happy place :) It got so hot! Everyone was very excited (worth it) yay for the girls in hot pants, phew for me as I had to take antsy breathers outside while itching to get back in and dance!
I f'n <3 Diplo
Side note: four dollar water? For real? Do you WANT people puking in your club?!
Diplo was great! His label Mad Decent threw a really great block party. His House music really got everybody in the zone to get crazy. All the acts before him really knew how to hype up the crowd. And Diplo is really interactive with his audience. The show was cut a little short because of a severe storm and he gladly gave us a warning. Best show I've been to.
Overrated, and it took almost 4 hours for Diplo to actually show up. His openers wasted too much time, and they weren't that good anyway. Because the openers played such long sets, they ended up repeating songs that each other had already played, which wasn't ideal. It was a disappointing night overall. Not worth 60 dollars in the least.
To be honest, after this year's appearance at EDC, I was concerned that the show at Echostage might be less enjoyable than previous performances. I should have known that Diplo was going to bring his more-typical, high-energy set. Was a fun time that's left me pleasantly-tired, today.
