“Champagne” is the first song that played by this band at Grasslands festival. They are led by, Lorely Rodriguez, who immediately grabs your attention with her sensual but bizarre vocals. She jumps from full voice to falsetto almost the whole time through out this engaging dream pop tune. It feels as though I may have entered a time warp and gone back to 1984 maybe. Her eccentric charm is similar to that of Bjork.
“Hat Trick” is another song that makes quite an impression on everyone. The room falls silent and just listens to what Rodriguez is singing. The music is fun, almost possessing a bit of a French feel, complete with a little va va voom. “Don’t Tell Me”, is another one of their big songs that lights up the room, with the audience dancing in return. I feel as though everyone is even dancing like it’s 1984. It’s a fun atmosphere in here with a hint of surrealism added to the mix, with an intriguing vibe.
I've been dying to see this artist since I discovered her in 2015. Empress Of brought IT even on a Wednesday night after a huge snow storm. It takes a bit of liquid courage for me to dance but it was impossible for me not to move during her set. She is good energy and Toronto needs her on the regular! So proud to see her moving up as she is severely underrated and deserves to sell out larger venues.
I have being in a many of empress of live concierts.and love the way Lorely keep up her effort to sucses she will make a big lent to others new artists .go for empress of
Such a great show in DC!!...was the last show of her tour glad I got to see her. Her live band was great and all the cool drum/vocal machines added to the shows vibe!
