Tuesday 14th February. Clapham Grand. Rag n Bone Man. It’s been over twenty years since I last visited the Clapham Grand and so this Valentines night I and my lovely wife find ourselves here to see Rag n Bone Man and support War Child.
I would be amazed if there is anyone in the country who is not aware of him as a result of media saturation recently and much hype. Billed as the saviour of soul we are about to find out if he can live up to the hype.
Well he certainly opens the set impressively coming on stage solo with just a guitar for accompaniment. Belting out an impassioned version of ‘Reuben’s Train’. Bedecked in a T Shirt that resembles one of those Magic Eye pictures he is the joined by the band.
What follows is an hour or so of OK soul tunes that don’t really move you or force you to take that step back and think wow. There are moments of course when he hits the highs and really unleashes the voice but they are few although the breakthrough single ‘Human’ is top drawer.
It’s difficult to know whether you want him to let go and really belt out the songs or take a step back, shut the band down, and build some intimacy and feeling.
The crowd love it though and maybe I’m just a cynical old man but I think the quality of songs needs to improve if he is going to sustain the current industry train he is riding. I suggest that they go back to listen to how it should be done from the sixties.
Clearly a talent and with more consistently good tunes and a bit more felling he could be the real deal.
A good not great night and keep on rockin y’all
This guy is absolutely incredible live! His band backs him up very well. He has a powerful, soulful voice. Hearing this man's one-of-a-kind voice alone is worth the price of addmission. Definitely a must see artist and a star in the making! I can't wait for the day to come where he is topping the charts and selling out stadiums. He has the god given talent with his voice and the strength in his songwriting to make it happen with the right opportunity. His record label should consider themselves very lucky to have an artist of this caliber on their roster. I'm not entirely sure why they aren't putting more effort into getting him better radio airplay and booking bigger shows for him in the United States, but they should be! I paid 20 bucks to see him in Detroit in 2018 and I was lucky enough to meet him after the show. The humility and the heart this guy has is what really makes him special. He really appreciates each and every one of his fans and he is doing music because he loves being up on stage performing. Even if this guy never makes it huge around the world like he deserves to, I am thankful to have been able to meet him and see him perform once in my lifetime. Keep on being awesome Rag'n'Bone Man, because you sir, are a class act!
Went to see my first Rag n Bone Man concert at Alexandra Palace on the 8 March 2018. The venue was standing only. Perfect for this type of concert. Do not knock this artist until you have seen him live and he is worth seeing live. I full heartedly recommend it. I dare you to not enjoy 2 hours of pure perfection. His voice was to die for. He performed a different version of 'Human'. Brilliant! Rory is as talented as any artist right now and he came across as a sincere performer with it. He surprisingly had an audience of fans ranging from my son's aged 14 right up to hip 60 year olds. His stage presence was sincere and extremely professional. The band and backups were right on the money. There were influnces in his performznce from the Blues, reggae, drum n bass and rock. Loved it all. Very clever.I WILL be seeing him again. If you get the chance go and see what every one is talking about. He still has that air of not being totally commercialised, but still maintaining that underground edge which is the sign of longevity,I hope, in the music industry. Having seen him live I have come away loving this man and his music 100 fold. I dare you not to.
OMG what a wonderful evening !
It started out hysterical for me (uhm me? I mean Rory) because Rory was on his way to the pub when I arrived at the Melkweg......I don't know what happened but suddenly I thought I was 16 again....ran to him, gave him a hug and told him how I loved him (?????? I meant his music ofcourse, but couldn't think straight anymore hahaha).....luckely he's about 30cm bigger, otherwise I think I would have give him a kiss too (I embarressed myself pretty because I'm 54 years old hahahaha) I was walking on sunshine the whole night (3 days later still hahaha)
The concert was .....wow.....seriousely better then I hoped.....goosebumps, a little tear now and then, sometimes he was a bit out of tune, but hey......aren't we all human after all.(also refering to my "stupid" action earlier)
Rag 'n bone gained a new fan,a hardcore fan !!
I'm not a serious stalker ofcourse but the way I feal about him, his music and lyrics I only felt once in my life about an artist and his name was David Bowie and that lasts already about 40 years !
Thanks Rory !!
Having seen Rag N Bone man in Manchester's "intimate" Deaf Institute 2 years ago, it's incredible to see how far he's come. The lighting and staging are bigger and better, the band and backing singers have grown also, but there's 2 main reasons you'll want to see this man in the flesh. 1. The voice. Like a seasoned whiskey, it's smooth but strong and even more incredible live. 2. The music. The slow builds through the verses to the crescendo's of the chorus' on songs like "hell yeah" and "human" will ensure you lose yourself in it all. There were no weak songs on last nights Zurich set and if you're thinking of seeing him live I'd encourage you to listen to his pre-human repatoir, if you haven't already, as some of these feature and there's no better way to enjoy the occasion than singing along!
Last night was one that will live long in the memory. As I've already said, we found ourselves completely lost in the music, track after track, like no other live artist I've seen has ever managed. Go and see Rag N Bone Man now!
We saw rag'n'bone man two days ago. It was really good!
He was just really amazing and mind blowing even for me who isn't a hardcore fan.
He was really charming and not really making a big show but that wasn't necessary. He talked to the fans and made us laugh.
He was really great.
The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the fact that we barely found the hall were he was supposed to play. An hour before the opening there were like only a couple of people there which i thought was i bit unusual for someone so famous.
(The concert was in vienna at the gasometer)
Most people had like a huge stick up their behinds and weren't dancing nor singing which disappointed us a bit. We tried to compensate the lack of intressed from the other's by screaming and singing even louder.
All in all it was an amazing show 13/10 would recommend.
At Dubai Opera Rag ‘n’ Bone Man excelled himself! Performing many of his well know compositions including Bitter End, Human and Odetta, with some stories by way of explanation, he had the audience singing loudly and dancing cheerfully, where some of them stood, in the Fan Pit.
His rapping alone carried us along into sheer mesmerising mode. The deep sexy tones of his vocals made us quiver in awe. What a fabulous performer, personable and warm. (At one point he had a drink and as he was about to start the next song he burped into the microphone. The entire opera house burst into laughter as he himself was highly amused at this unique blip)!
He’s welcome back to the sand any time soon with his talented musicians and back up singer who, of course, added to mmthe overall enjoyment of the event.
Disappointing Night,
Rag'n'bone Man was brilliant, he is super talents with a great voice.
The problem was with the first act 'Rum.Com' they were ineligible with their babble, it was simply noise which the whole audience were talking and shouting over. 'Dan Calpen' the second act was much better but he was drowned out by constant chatter from the audience.
The audiences behaviour really ruined what should have been an alright night, costantly talking through all the performances. I was totally disrespectful of the performers ans their fellow members of the audience . It appeared that they weren't there to watch the act there to get drunk. I lost count of the amount of times I was shoved by someone going to or from the bar.
A good night spoilt by numpties.
keep up the spirit
I had high expectations for this show as I have all his albums and adore his voice. I was not disappointed. He was fantastic. His voice was perfect, he was quite overwhelmed with the adulation of the audience. He came across as a really nice bloke. Would highly recommend seeing him. As someone else said previously. If you are not familiar with his earlier work it would enhance the show if you listened to his other work namely the albums 'Wolves' and 'Disfigured'as he does sing from these albums. They are definitely worth getting if you are a fan anyway. FANTASTIC show and am already looking for when I can see him again.
