In between playing in the uber-modest neo-hippie and freak folk band Feathers and J. Mascis’ stoner metal band Witch, Thomas released his debut album in 2006. Self-released on CD-R but distributed through Spirit of Orr records the release titled “Mind Blow” featured many typically lo-fi yet climatic songs that would be on his later releases.
In 2008 King Tuff released his full-length debut “Was Dead” through Tee Pee Records’ sister label The Colonel. Due to the limited release the album has become somewhat of a collectors item among some circles, the album re-release in 2013 through Burger Records saw the album reach No. 8 on the Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. After the release Thomas toured with Hunx & his Punx and Witch, as well as releasing other material for his power-pop band Happy Birthday.
Thomas’ other projects left King Tuff gathering dust until 2011 when a split single with Hex Dispensers hit the shelves, and a year later in 2012 another single for Suicide Squeeze entitled “Wild Desire”. The singles paved the way for King Tuff’s self-titled album, which was released on the highly revered Sub Pop label on May 29, 2012, and reached No. 21 on Billboard Heatseeker Album chart. The album was produced by Bobby Harlow and showed a maturity and experimentation to his style.
In 2014 Thomas released his third full-length “Black Moon Spell” which became his most successful to date, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseeker Album chart, pushed to the No. 1 spot on the CMJ College Radioplay chart and featured guest drummer Ty Segall.

King Tuff whose real name is actually Kyle Thomas is an artist signed with Burger Records and Sub Pop Records. His band has released several music videos and toured around the US, Australia and Europe in the past. Their second album was released by Sub Pop in 2012 and reached number 21 on Billboard's Heatseeker Albums chart. Kyle Thomas is slightly insane; well it seems that way when he's on stage. Himself and his group play garage rock/ indie pop/ power pop style music and from what I know of those genres they do it pretty well. Any performance they do ends in mosh pits and sweaty, screaming fans, just as it should I guess. They have done extremely well from their tours, gathering a lot of dedicated fans along the way, which proves they know how to work a crowd at any venue across the globe. I hope to see and hear more of them in the future because they really piqued my interest with their insane guitar riffs and energy on stage, and I would advise any fans of their style of music to give them a listen, I think you’d be pleasantly surprised and enjoy seeing them live as much as I did.

Killer show! I was mostly there for the opener, La Sera, who have been a favorite group of mine for about a year now. It was awesome to see them again. They have a wonderful energy on-stage and I really dig their live sound.
King Tuff, however, did not disappoint. Pumped up from a Giants win, the crowd was ready to riot. It added to the energy of the show and the group, who were already pumped to be playing the last show of their tour in an awesome city. I would definitely see them again. As always, the sound and energy at Great American Music Hall was superb. It's slowly rising it's way to the top of my favorite venues. Can't wait 'til the next one!
